me and a friend've been talking (he's buying an all tube head... cos he spent a while at my place the other day hehe.. got gas BAD!)

and came up to which speakers would be good..

some celestions are now being made in china.. which ones are those? i know they're making V30's overseas. what are the other models?

also, what are the alternatives. i know eminence, but that's it.. some suggestions would be nice.

what would be classed as the best speaker all depends on the the part of the audio spectrum you want highlighting. and what music style there for.
BKP's - Black Dogs...

eminence
weber
jensen

tone tubby

probably some more, too. I think those are the main ones, though.

check out a thiele mesa boogie cab loaded with a 1x12 EV-I am amazed at how powerful this mother is-I just got  one for my mark-it is a small, heavy ported cab--I A/B'd with a 4/12 Boogie cab-the powerful bass response made it difficult to tell the difference-the EV speaker is the Key(electrovoice)EVM 12L-its a 200watt monster that handles bass-no flubbing/mud/farting out-of course, it doesnt break up like a celestion-Its a monster and a great alternative to lugging around a 4/12--I have a 4/12 with vintage cel. greenbacks in it as well-no comparison when it comes to modern rock/metal-the thiele rules!!!!!

don't know what difference being made in China makes, but anyway...

only the Alnico G12 and Heritage series are made in the UK.

V30s are great speakers but I tend to favour them when using lots of gain - for vintage rock & blues you can't beat G12Ms and G12Hs.

From my experience Jensens sound like the best speakers. I used to have a Jensen C12N in my Blonde Fender Deluxe which I no longer own. It made the amp come alive, and it was miles better sounding than a standard Fender Deluxe 1x12, mainly cos of the speaker.

There are many different models, so choose one that complements the amp and guitar sound most of all.

cheers.

Ben.

No, Classic Leads = perfection. V30s are too thin sounding often...
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Interesting...  I totally disagree with one thing there, which is the Classic Leads not being as smooth as G12Hs... and they also failed to mention that while V30s may have tight lows, the main reason for that is that the lows are so quiet they are almost non-existent with many amps.
