Firstly, for rescuing my cursed third Warmoth project. I wondered if I'd ever get to play it, but now it's a nice guitar that I'm really enjoying :) - it's great to hear the Cold Sweat neck & Miracle Man bridge in all their glory.

Secondly, for refretting my Les Paul Goldtop. Now it has 6150s that go over the binding rather than the other way round - Feline does very nice fretwork :) Also got him to install 53mm spaced Nailbombs in it - the 50mm Holy Diver set didn't line up at all + I wanted another Nailbomb LP. The HD set didn't go to waste though :twisted:

Cool. I've kinda come back to the Floyd Rose after many years as a fixed-bridge only player so it will be nice to have 2 or 3 guitars with that trem system again (the Wilkinson on my korina strat is nice, but doesn't really cut it for divebombs & squeals).

The funny thing is that as I look closely at my guitars I can see more & more things that need dealing with - journeys to Croydon could become a regular occurrence for the forseeable future :lol:

The body came with a non-recessed trem rout, but we decided that it would sit just too low down and/or require the neck shimming, so Feline routed the recess (we well as extract the broken screw, drill the neck holes & clean up various other disasters I had while attempting to put it together myself :roll:)

That looks great. Would you recommend Warmoth for building up a superstrat type thing? If I cant find what I want used (when I have the cash) I'm probably gonna start building one up and warmoth looks like the best place for necks and bodies, but shipping and customs always worries me.

From what i hear warmoth's dont hold their price very well... the only downside i can find with them. As for their quality, equal to that of a customshop strat, at a fraction of the price.

You're probably right, if I sold one of my Warmoths I'd be surprised if I even recovered the cost of the parts.

However that's not the point. I assembled these guitars because I was interested in learning more about building guitars, because I liked to make models as a child, & because I couldn't find a stock guitar that was EXACTLY what I wanted.

For me, it's been very enjoyable & worth it.

Yeah thats kinda why I wanted to get one, I want something thats got everything I want as cheaper/lower end superstrats dont seem to come with good trems apparently (or pickups for that matter :P). Plus I love building up stuff myself, I was always a fan of model kits when I was younger aswell :lol: How much was customs and shipping on your Warmoths, on average?

Anyway, I wouldnt buy a Warmoth (or any guitar, really) for selling it, kinda defeats the point.

When you order from Warmoth, they will quote you the shipping costs over the phone before you complete.

They use UPS to ship to the UK. You will have to pay Import Duty & VAT to teh delivery driver.

IIRC Import duty is 2.7%, then you add 17.5% VAT on top of that (double check the import duty on HMRC website)

All 3 of my Warmoth orders have been around £600 (each time I've bought everything I needed except strap locks, BKPs & a case)

If you're thinking about it, now is the time because the exchange rate is very favourable - e.g. my last order was $1260 which was about £670. Duty & VAT (& UPS' admin fee) was £149.

hmm I was actually only planning on getting the body and neck (maybe the bridge if I go for a floyd) from Warmoth then everything else from over here to save on postage costs.

Anyway I appear to have hijacked the thread so its probably best to stick to PMs if you have any more advice to offer me :P

Lol yeah i would love to get creative, Ive drawn a few paint designs for my Kramer, in my opinion although warmoth dont hold their prices very well... Its definately value for money. On harmony central some guy was reviewing the Jackson PC1, he said his warmoths were better quality, at a third of the price, If i bought a warmoth i wouldnt want to sell it on anyway, after id put all the effort into making the guitar my own.

However as well as being a very creative young lad, im also the clumsyest m*therf*cker around, so i would probably make a pigs ear of the guitar, its a real risk for me to buy guitar parts and hope they all fit together without me making something go wrong.

Well, if you get them to finish the body & neck then it's not much more than an assembly job. That's not to say it's easy - there are pitfalls.

My difficulties with this one stemmed from not looking closely enough at the pic of the neck on the showcase page - I didn't notice that the screw holes weren't drilled. Then I compounded the error by starting without the correct tools. After attempting to drill them with a hand drill (WTF was I thinking?!? :lol:) & making a pig's ear of it :(, Feline got involved. Then it became obvious that either a neck shim or body rout would be necessary - the Warmoth VIP is really designed for a Wilkinson, so Feline did that too. Let's not talk about the snapped screw... ;)

(At this point, it should be said that the job hasn't been invented involving screwdrivers that I can't make a complete mess of :roll:)

On a happier note, my alder strat (the first one) had no problems.

My korina strat went together in about 4 hours & is one of my favourite guitars :D

haha yeah I'm the same with guitar stuff I tend to have to bodge a few jobs occasionally depending on how much time and care I take when installing new stuff :lol: I did this superstrat on Kisekae, that program/site iis horrible when you have next to no money. It may actually be easier/cheaper in the long run to get a Kramer from Musicyo in a similar spec though -
