Which Pickup For Les Paul

I have a 2000 standard with a JB (500k pots) in the bridge, and a 2004 standard with the BB it came with. Live all seems OK with both, but rehersing. Now rehersals are at the drummers studio which he built in his garden, so I use a Pod XT live straight into the desk and we all use headphones. Recently the BBs have sounded wooly. The JB I have never questioned always sounded fine. So I have been thinking to replace the bridge BB with a Bare Knuckle pickup.  I play covers (rhythm) 60s ,70s 80s, 90s, 00s.  From looking around on forums and elsewhere the BK Mules look good to me. Should I go for them?  Or somthing else?

Welcome mate!  Mules rule, period.  You want an all rounder and those are they  :D

They have a nice midrange hump that works really well in a mix and they sound very sweet - very musical.  You won't go wrong with a Mule!

The Mules are definitely great all-rounders -- they absolutely capture that classic PAF/Les Paul tone.  Also worth considering are the Crawlers (like a hotter Mule with a touch more mid-range to carry you through the mix, and also very versatile) and the Rebel Yells (also hotter than the Mule, similar in output to the Crawlers but brighter, edgier, and by all accounts awesome for modern rock applications).

(That said, I suspect pups like the Emerald are still undervalued/underrepresented on the forum!)

Yup wasn't what I first thought to put in a Lp but they are the sound I was looking for.....to me what I wanted in a LP

+ 1 for the 'Mules' from me ....

Clear and versatile, but as 'Twinfan' stated, with a nice tasteful midrange hump. The top end is very sweet as well, especially if you adjust them a little further from the strings.

Classic 1950s PAF sounds, and just ideal for a Les Paul as their frequency response just matches the weight, body size and woods of the Les Paul beautifully.

Any of the Vintage/Hot Vintage pickups sound awesome in an LP, my faves are the Black Dog's though. The Emerald and the VHII are great sounding pickups as well, though they just don't compete with the Black Dog's for me.

I can only speak for the Black Dog set, and it sounds friggin sweet. I played almost 6 hours straight yesterday :roll:  and jammed with some friends...it's like a whole new axe. I'd imagine any classic vintage/vintage hot would suit an LP as already stated though.  :)
