Making a Rosewood Fretboard Darker
« on: December 10, 2006, 11:51:21 PM »
Im wanting to find a way to darken the rosewood fretboard on my Epi G400 Custom to where it will look more like ebony. I emailed Stewart-Mac. about their dark ebony dye and what effect it might have on a rosewood fretboard and they say it will give it a more "opague black" appearance. However Im not sure what this stuff might do to my inlays and binding if it touches them. Are there any other products that might help me to darken the board w/ out having an adverse effect on my inlays / binding?

If you use lemon oil, after time it will darken.

We have a buffing wheel that we always use for buffing frets and it automatically darkens rosewood too if we want it to and don't mask off the fretboard.

The fiebings oil that stewmac sell is actually leather dye used by saddlemakers and works well
