:D Hunter.

Did you have the wire changed in your Epi when you got the Dogs put in ?

Your right if you find a guitar that "Sings" when its unpluged it`s a keeper !

 :D  8)

The only way to check wether its the P/U or guitar is to switch `em out & put `em in the PRS.

Unfortunately this forum is for BKP pickups only due to the cost of bandwidth.
I'm afraid I have had to remove your non BKP clip as it would be unfair on others if I left it.

Ol.

lol and not because it sounded the best?

I've just given these clips another listen (with my GF, a fresh pair of ears is always insightful). I suspect that the PRS pickups, even if they are a bit dark as you you say, are quite high output. They certainly push much harder than the BKPs, and after the  Black Dogs they are a big contrast in power.
The RYs are more a match in terms of power although their EQ is balanced differently.
If you listen to the RY clip before the PRS you find that the PRS pups lack the finesse, clarity and beauty that the RYs have.
It's these qualities that make BKPs so special, not just power monsters that sound flashy.
I'd also like to say that your playing on the PRS clip was amazing,:) :) :) I sure got excited listening to it, but I know I shouldn't confuse that with tone.

A guitar with pickups like that as stock would make anyone happy, me included. If you feel the need to change them though I think it could only be an even greater improvement. But pickups are just one part of the chain beginning with our fingers and ending with our ears.
Thank you for this lesson, I have learnt a lot

Those PRS pups sounded nice indeed! I'd keep them based on the clips.

chances are the pups on the PRS aren't what makes it sound good at all, i used to have a PRS Tremonti SE (basically the same as the singlecut) and it sounded really good unplugged, but i found that the neck pickup mushed up a bit too much, even during solos, and there wasn't quite enough cut for me

slap some BKPs in it and see if it sounds EVEN better, if not, then you managed to find some fluke PRS pickups

I guessed clips 1 & 3 were the BD and RY respectively.  Seems I'm not completely tone-deaf after all.  :o

Shame I never got to hear clip 2.  The SEs are really good bang-for-buck guitars, although I wasn't too keen on the pickups in my H/S/S SE EG.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Disheartening? Not at all.............do the test with only one guitar and you'll hear the difference between the pickups.Three guitars with three different sets of pickups isn't objective in the slightest. You're trying to compare 3 different timbers, 3 different constructions and 3 different sets of pickups. No contest I'm afraid.
Apologies for Ol removing the PRS clip but we decided on the forum rules along time ago-the bandwidth costs a small fortune to maintain too

I agree with you totally Tim.  The guitar makes a huge difference.  I'd like to hear how it would sound with Mules in it!!!!

This brings me back to the original thread - it was about the favourite GUITAR indeed, not pickup.

As I know myself I'll upgrade them to BKPs anyways within a few weeks

I'm a little late on this, but I could tell guitar 3 has Rebel Yells before I read what's in what (of course I never got to hear clip 2).  I happen to be aware hunter has black dogs and rebel yells and you can tell that clip 3 is the Rebel Yells because it is a little brighter and better defined sounding as well.

Even in Musicman as opposed to the Les Paul, the black dogs remain darker and the Rebel Yells brighter.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

:D The reason i asked about the electrics is that Epi`s are notorious for using cr@p electrics in there guitars. This will dramatically effect how the guitar sounds. When getting your pups installed its allways worth while having all the wires upgraded & pots to if you can afford it.

Yes, I must admit to being somewhat disappointed and cynical at that edit.  Surely a bit of comparison/healthy competition is no danger is it ?  Or is it ? BKP as a company have gone down in my estimation as a result .   :?
