My cab is now grille'd!
« on: December 14, 2006, 11:10:06 AM »
If anyone remembers I bought this cab from ebay without a grille and I've only just got round to fitting one. This is pretty much a bodge-job but it looks fine and will give some added protection to the speakers.

First is the frame in the cab when I was just checking its fitting, as you can see my precision-woodworking skills are pretty much non-existant but I was just showing in case anyone was interested in doing it themselves..

And here it is with cloth over it. Its a bit lighter than I thought it would be and I guess I should've painted the frame grey to match as you can see it, I thought you wouldnt  :P

All in, it cost about £20 to do and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome :D

Cheers!

Even better pic now as it features my guitar :P

If I ever need to take it apart I'll have to spray that frame grey

Havent actually plugged in and had a go yet. I hope it hasnt though, but it all feels pretty solid so it shouldnt have any rattles or anything.

And yeah the stapled thin cloth looked shitee compared to this

I see you didnt notice in the corner of the last pic where I have my finger over the edge of the lense a bit then

Btw this setup sounds SO good now my G12H has had more time to break in, still has a bit of buzziness but it should go away soon I hope. Gonna get a mic soon so hopefully I'll be able to start doing some recordings asap :D

sorry to be an idiot, but what does a hotplate do? ive never heard of one before i came on here...

By the way... awesome cab job! those 2x12 cabs that have the speakers vertically to each other are great!
the grey is amazing

Well normally valve amps sound better when you get to have the master volume up a bit to get the power amp valves to distort/overdrive. Makes the sound warmer and more rounded. But as its so loud its not always practical.. so the hotplate goes between the amp and speaker to take some Db's off but still retains the nice valve breakup sound (to an extent, if you attenuate more than 12 db it starts to sound cr@p imho as youre not pushing the speakers enough)

Ooh and the grey looks so much better in person, the pics make it look really light.
