a bit less gain, a bit less trebble, 1 notch more bass. left channel pig in parallel, right one in series.

excuse my sloppy rendition of the couple of riffs, hard to keep time with just the drums in your head and no headphones.

And WFD, the first thing you will be told when you go to a professional recording studio is to turn the gain down on your amp. The way to get clear but crushing tone is to turn down the gain, turn the master up and multi mic an amp or do 4 takes of each riff. This way you keep clarity because what you get alot of the time with too much gain is it covers up the notes.

I have my powerball's gain around 9 o'clock when im recording with the master around 3. You have a 5150, right? I wouldn't have the gain much higher then 10 o'clock for death metal.

I have to say yours are the best Warpig clips I've heard so far. So much crunch! I need a V30 for my cab I think..

Whats your recording setup? I need to get some stuff for recording soon and no idea what to get other than an SM57!

tom, there was a thread, started by me a while back, about the gear i have .. let me dig it up for you.. well, you posted in it too ;)

add a slightly moded boss SD1 to that.. it's got slightly more gain and a tad less noise. level is on full (damn near busted the knob off) the tone is @ 1 o'clock and gain at 9 o'clock

Laurie.. this is without even trying much. like i said, the laney is key to the opeth sound. i know they use gt3, 6 whatever and mainly use the laneys as power amps, but the basic tone structure is all laney. you get the tone in the package. and as you heard it does sabbath too (that is, it alone cranked, without the boss pedal)

so if i got a GH50L, then with enough time spent on finding the tone, i would just about have the tone i am looking for? from there i could change settings to my liking (which wouldn't be much tweaking!) or possibly add an EQ pedal in the mix to tidy things up. that is the tonal structure right there!!!

any setting, as long as it's not scooped to hell, yields a pretty good tone, you just have to mix it well, with the EQ, for certain applications, you could boost a certain frequency set, but i found it sounds best when it's all kind of in the same ballpark.

i'd say a GH50L would deliver and then some.
