Might have burnt out pedal. What do you think?
« on: December 20, 2006, 06:56:25 PM »
Hi All,

I have a MRX distortion + that I had modified.  I stupidly plugged a ac adapter that had the +/- reversed.  I hit the on button but nothing happened.  I then smelled a burning smell.  I immediately unplugged the ac adapter and blew in the input jacks.  I then plugged the correct ac adapter into it and it still works and seems to sound the same.  Should I just not worry about it or could something still be wrong?  thanks

Most pedals have some sort of reverse polarity protection. This is probably a reversev biased diode from the positive rail to ground in your pedal. If you put the DC adaptor in the wrong way around this diode is effectively a short circuit and prevents damage to the pedal. However, the diode will be very hot and this probably explains the smoke. Anyone with basic electronics knowledge should be able to check this for you.

If it works now, yeah, you should be ok... just keep an eye on it and be careful with it.
