Noooooo!!! Broke a string on the strat!
« on: December 21, 2006, 05:33:21 PM »
:(  Well that's the end of that. I have no idea how to change strings and do stuff on this locking trem. Think i'll just give it to someone who knows what they are doing, coughfelinecough. It needs setting up anyway, the action, intonation, there is only one strap holder and it needs tuning properly. Though i have no money at the moment and i'm buying BKP's after xmas so looks like the strat will be out for a while

But at least i broke it in dignity, i was playing the solo to Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane!

And amazingly it wasn't the high e string  :o  It was the b string, and i wasn't even playing on the b string when it happened so i don't know why it broke.

If it's easier for you to get to, go to machine head and have Barry give it a once over.

What kind of strat is it?

80's Schecter Strategy i think. I would take it to Barry but i think his prices are a rip off, though he seems like he does good work.

His pricelist says just to do the action & intonation is £84! Now i havn't had to give my guitar to someone before but even i can tell that's a tad expensive!

Anyone tried the guy from Coda?

^ jeez, I got a full set up (granted, about a year and a half ago) from a shop here in Northern Ireland for £25... including strings. On a floyd guitar (since they tend to be dearer).

I only paid £45 for a full set up. If prices go higher than expected it means he had to do something else to it too.

I've had my Jackson RR3 done over by the bloke at Coda and he was terrible. It took almost 5 weeks for me to get it back and it only went in to have the knife edges of the tremolo fixed and a quick set up.

Hey Crazy Joe.. It's your lucky day!

As a Xmas deal I will personally come over to Hatfield and change your string for the one time only CRAZY winter sale price of £50!!

Yes, you read it right FIFTY pounds ONLY!!

Plus that's not all... no way you say... how can Dave make me such a wild deal?

Well as a one time only bonus I WILL TUNE YOUR GUITAR dude!!

Act now as these prices are so CRAAAZY they can't last...

(I think that a full set-up can wait till you get the pickups and then you can get them fitted at the same time but you can learn to change the string man)

At least it broke during a Scorpions song - was listening to Blackout last night  (what a great album)

We may just be a bit far to go if you don't have transport
We charge £40 for a set up and £90 for a fret dress and set-up (strings extra).

A few of the guys have been down here (incl Malicious Steve) so know their way to our place.

Anyway we are open till Saturday and then closed until the new year (although i may put in a couple of days just building guitars without the phone or doorbell going)

Great fretwork!

^ haha great song.

I'm playing my Explorer all the time now though, the only time i have used my strat this week was yesterday when my string broke
It showed me how much i don't need a trem and stuff, i'm more of a simple explorer guitar guy. Also i'm getting BKP's for it so that will make the strat even more neglected!

It reallyt isn't that hard to change a string in a FR...

-just losen the string retaining block thing on the saddle,
-take out the string,
-get new one and cut ball off,
-stick into hole, tighten screw,
-and do as you would to a normal guitar...

jez mate if u cant be arsed to do that and pay £25-90, theres something wrong with u??

MMM
