Okay I am looking to sell a cabinet I do not use and my modded JCM 900 SL-X for something with a little bit less gain, but with more gain than my Marshall Major or maybe with a foot-switchable extra gain stage. It should handle a Soldano Supercharger well also...

It should have tones like Steve Stevens, and Gary Moore (blues and rock era).... I am thinking a Roccaforte DRRS.

Any other options?

Roccaforte sounds like a good choice, i'd also look into the Mojave Scorpion and maybe a Cornford Hellcat or Mk50II..

Splawns are nice and should be able to handle all the tones you want. :D

Why not just an old Marshall PLexi? Or even a new one? With the supercharger in front you should be able to get a load of tones.

a JMP-era master volume Marshall sounds like the order of the day (2204 or 2203). you could go with one of the boutique ripoffs of this amp or buy the real thing for around £400.

one of the cooler boutique rippoffs is the Tophat Emplexador - I really like that amp.

I'm looking for something less bright, ie non JCM and maybe even 6L6 or a larger EL34 tone.... like an older Marshall, maybe the '69-'74 era... or a plexi with KT66s but those can be mad expensive.

I played a Voodoo head that was supposed to be a Marshall 1987X replica or a modded one essentially... it was way too thin and fizzy for what I am looking for....

Splawns offer some dual channel options right? Essentially a clean amp and a distorted amp into one...?

I wouldn't actually pay money for a new Marshall plexi replica... I've played them, and I've played numerous of the real thing and they sound nothing alike... the new ones have way too much treble and are quite thin...

The Pro Mod and the Quick Rod heads have two channels one clean and one dirty. The dirty channel has 3 gears that allow to select how you want that channel to sound and how much gain it has available. Also you have OD/OD2 (gain boost) and a boost feature. Lots of options to annoy the neighbors. :twisted:

In the "lesser gain" but "full tone" range, I think you should consider Orange or Laney, or maybe Matamp?

If it would be me, and you look like a single channel to complement the supercharger, I'd get a Bogner Metropolis though :roll:

You cannot put pedals of any kind in front of a Roccaforte! You will blow it up if you try!! For using one as a guitar > amp setup, they are great, great amplifiers, but I find the volume control to not have a wide enough range (it's either LOUD or OFF), and even the High Gain version will not really distort like a Splawn will (just to pick a high gain amp at random, as I know the Splawn's tone).

I'm not sure if you're looking for that classic, 80s metal tone. If you aren't, then stay away from the Splawn.

Given what you're asking for, I would suggest:

Matamp GT-1
Komet
Mojave

A very versatile amp, though with a more modern voicing, that you should also look into is the Diezel VH-4.

Oh really? Doug said the DRRS takes pedals better than any other amp.... and remember, with a Supercharger I do not really have to boost the input all that much. I run it through a Major which I am sure is much more prone to blowing up with no problems...

I'm looking for a more full clean tone.... fuller and less bright than the typical 80s tone, maybe earlier 80s tones like Gary Moore's Victims of the Future album or like the song "The Longer," and maybe cleaner tones like "The Messiah Will Come Again" and some Steve Stevens tones...

I was really considering the DRRS for the most part where I am going for something cleaner than say the Hi Gain, although the Hi Gain gets an awesome Van Halen tone..... perhaps I may like the middle ground of the Custom 80, but when I described the tones I want Doug said "definitely a DRRS."
