Telecaster and earthproblems
« on: January 01, 2007, 01:50:38 PM »
I am building a telecaster, and I am going to buy, duh, BKP pickups for the guitar. i am familiar with a LOT of guitars and wiring, but i have no idea how to earth this instrument. that is; the earth-wires have to go to ground (or mass, whatever you want to name it :) ) but where is that place? on a les paul there's a nice little wire that goes to the stoptailstud, on a strat it goes to the springcavity, etc etc. but an a tele, i'm clueless.

so, if someone would know, and possibly could even post a picture of it, i'd be very obliged!

There should be a hole under the bridge plate drilled through into the bridge pickup cavity.

A length of hookup wire threads through this hole, through the pickup cavity, then to the back of a pot (or another ground point).  Just leave about 1/2" of bare wire under the bridge, the bridge holds it in place.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It's not the clearest pic in the world, but see the additonal hole between the bridge mounting holes and the bridge pickup cavity?

The black wire in the cavity should stick out of that hole and connect the bottom of the bridge plate to the lug screwed to the bottom of the cavity (which makes contact with the shielding paint).  There'd be another wire from that lug, running into the control cavity and  connected to the back of a pot, so ultimately the bridge is connected to ground.
