Screwed screw thread
« on: January 08, 2007, 09:01:04 PM »
Hi folks.

I have a guitar here (suprise!) that has a cr@ppy old jackson trem. One of the alen screws that holds the strings in has had the thread ripped out (soft metal + repeated overtightening, you know the deal).

Its not mine: I'm changing the pickups for a mate. When changing the strings, applying rather little force with the allen key, the thread went (on the B if you want a clear visual).

My fault or not (it happened under my watch at least) I'm not giving the man back a knackered guitar.

Is there anything I can do?

Is there anywhere I can get a replacement drop in saddle?

I'd really rather not buy a new trem. Or fit one of mine. No, no I really dont see that happening.

All parts have them.

Answered my own thread. Feel free to ignore, unless you have a clever idea I can do from the comfort of my own home? (with a respectable mass of tools of course)

Plus I had a word with the guys whos guitar it is and he completely didnt give a toss. Just said "Happenned before, it'll happen again, I'll order a replacement".

What an outstandingly chilled guy.
