I have an issue......

I don't like the sound of my BKPs *shun*.

I got a Rebel Yell/Irish Tour set a few months ago. I put them into my LTD Lynch copy that is in my sig. My trouble is the guitar is INSANELY trebley. I mean any amp I plug into I have to turn down the treble almost all the way.

Do I need a new pot? It has a 500k Push/Pull and thats it. I never felt right with it as after the PuP change it always felt a bit er loose and too easy to turn.

Now I love the sound of the IT, it's even perhaps a bit too classic rock for my tastes (i.e. not enough gain). But the RY sounds nothing like the bridge that I took out, which was very muddy but tonally balanced. Emphasis on the tonally balanced.

Whats really depressing me is that I got a new Splawn Quick Rod (most intense and awesome amp in the world BTW), and since then I don't like the sound of any of my guitars, but I'll get into that another post.....

For now what do you think for the Lynch?

Have you consulted with Tim before you got the RY?

Anyway, it sounds great in my Axis, which is a trebly guitar, so can't really imagine it would be an issue.

Are you sure it's wired properly? Maybe you did a mistake with the split option (push/pull) and you play it in Single Coil. Can you try without wiring that just to make sure?

To smoothen the RY I would take the following path:
-lower pickup height and check
-Try a 250KOhm poti instead of the 500

Otherwise I would sell the RY and get a Holy Diver or Crawler?

What about capacitor make and values? What are you using currently?

I agree with the pot suggestion aswell, but I think caps will be your issue. I'd suggest trying quality ones (Hovland MusiCaps or Sprague Orange Drops) in 0.022.

I would try a crawler or a Nailbomb maybe as they have more beef

What is the LTD made of - I'm thinking that a Lynch guitar would be all maple which is a hard beast to tame - although the Miracle Man sounds good in my maple(sycamore) gunslinger.....kind of George Lynch tone which is a bit trebly.

Thought the same at the beginning but realised that the guitar only has a push/pul volume, no tone pot.

Was going to say basically the same as Feline - those Lynch guitars are solid maple, so I'd expect the RY to be way too bright. It's pretty damn bright in mahogany.

I think this definitely calls for TO's advice, since he basically has the same equipment.

I think the ESP model is all maple. My LTD is Alder with a Maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

As it sits the PuP is soldered directly to the tone pot. I got the schematic off you guys but i'll try to dig it out. There are no caps or anything.

I have a Schecter loaded w/ Nailbombs. How do you think it would sound if I swapped bridges?

Didn't realise about the single pot - doh!

You could try a 250k as suggested by Hunter but it sounds like the RY has too much treble for the guitar...

Ah, didn't realise the LTD was different from the ESP :oops: . Still, alder can be pretty bright with humbuckers.

Definitely worth a try - there's not too much difference in output levels. Could work really well, especially if the Schecter's a set-neck. :D

I'd have thought that the Miracle Man or more likely, the Holy Diver, just going by their descriptions, would be more like the Screamin' Demon type pup that Lynch used in his guitar?

This weekend I'm gonna swap my VHII from my strat into the LTD and see what happens.

The Splawns are very hi end gain orientated(having at last played one!)so I can see why this has revoiced your guitars from what you were used to.The trem is also robbing out the bass end but that's par for the course in S style axes and always the trade off if you want a whammy.
The RY is going to be bright in a double cut-I've one in an Axis with maple board and it is bright but it absolutely wails too.You could drop the pot value to 300K, this will roll the highs back a touch.............swapping to a NB bridge would also add some extra bass and mid too. I would expect your VHII to sound bright too although with a touch more warmth in the bass whereas the RYs emphasis is in the mids.

The guitar has a 500k push/pull fitted - so a 250k push pull may be your only other option for a pot - unless you are willing to modify the control cavity and add a separate switch.
