I was just enjoying playing my ES with its calibrated Stormy Mondays set and thought I'd put up another quick clip.

The clip is crying out for a proper guitarist to play the solo but you only get me doing a controlled feedback thing instead I'm afraid! :lol:
I'm no Eric Clapton myself but the ES-347 and the SMs have really go that Crossroads thing going on. Great pickups!

The chain/equipment ...

ES-347/Stromy Mondays - MXR Dynacomp - Maxon OD808 - (already slightly distorted) Ibanez Valbee - t.bone condenser microphone - Behringer MIC200 vave preamp - Boss BR800 digital 8 track recorder

For the lead guitar I added a Boss OD3 before the Maxon OD808 for more dirt and distortion.

Drums were programmed on the Boss recorder, which was also used to add reverb to all the tracks. The bass is a Yamaha BB414, plugged straight into the recorder using the "Fliptop" patch.

Excellent stuff Richie! You've got that "Crossroads" tone nailed, and it reminded me a bit of Robben Ford's cover of "Politician". Looking forward to getting my SM neck pickup, althiugh it might sound a bit different in a V.

I think I've said it before, but that ES-347 of yours is a thing of beauty. ES's aren't my cup of tea and I wouldn't normally choose gold hardware or even an ebony fingerboard, but they all work together perfectly on that guitar. :D

Thanks, Phil. The ES-347 is a lovely guitar, was pretty near mint when I bought it despite its age, and didn't cost the earth because its from that unfashionable Norlin era of Gibson's history.
OK, so the Norlin era is unfshionable for some good reasons, and the original pickups were awful .... but hey, that's what BKPs are for!

Hey Richie,

Nice clip. If I may say the lead at the end of the clip is a bit undermix and is coverd by the main riff but the tone seems very nice. The riff tone is a bit fuzzy for my taste. Which (neck/bridge) pup did you use for the riff and solo?

Nice guitar too. What year is it and how did the original pups sound like compared to the Stormys?

I've got a '74 ES345 with original pups, the neck is nicely warm but a bit muffeld and the bridge is muffled to and not that clear only nosey and aggressive so I'm tempted to put some StormyMondays on it.

Did your axe come with the stop tailpiece or did you have it changed from the trapeze tailpiece?

Hi Fabien,

The 347 is from 1979. The original pickups were horrible high-output ceramics (what they now call Dirty Fingers) and totally out of place in a jazz guitar.
I did change the tailpiece but it wasn't a trapeze, it was originally a TP-6.
All the playing on the clip was recorded with both pickups (selector in the middle position).
