Anyone know about Harry (K.) Cody?
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:14:33 PM »
Has anyone got info about Harry (K.) Cody who was the guitar player for Swedish glam band Kingpin/Shotgun Messiah back in the late 80s and also played some really nice guitar on Stu Hamm's  Kings of Sleep and The Urge Albums?
I really like his playing on those Stu Hamm ones, especially Kings Of Sleep (VHIIs for that tone maybe?? I think he used Ibanez JEMs with PAF Pros)

I'm fairly sure he had one of those Mike Varney spotlight articles in US Guitar Player magazine way back then, does anyone still have a copy? 8)

If he was in the GP Spotlight column I must have it somewhere, but any idea what year?

I've only got the first Shotgun Messiah album, but I still play it occasionally, the songs are good and it holds up well.  He was a bit of an old-fashioned straight-ahead riffmonger, not just a shredder!  And didn't he also play an LP Jr?  That was practically unheard of at the time.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Last thing I found out trawling the intermawebs was that he was living in California and making a living writing radio and advert jingles.  :?

It's a shame, 'cos he was an awesome player.

Tim Skold (Shotgun Messiah bass player) is doing alright for himself though.  The Skold album was a brilliant slice of industrial metal, and he has had stints in KMFDM (and offshoot MDFMK) and is currently bass player and producer for Marilyn Manson.

Hmm.. I don't think I ever bought many copies of GP, I remember I had the one with satriani on the cover (with his multicolour oil painted strat, the issue with the Crush Of Love and Power Cosmic on the flexi), The issue with Frank Gambale on and the one with Chuck Berry, maybe one or two more but I can't remember... this would have been around 1988 I think, maybe 89?
I know one of them also had Ritchie Kotzen in the Spotlight but that was a different issue.

I remember him using a Jem or a RG - was yellow as I recall.

Would maybe have used PAF Pro then - unless he switched out pickups

Harry K Cody did indeed use Jems plus assorted Jacksons and a Gibson Firebird.

You should also check out  the other Shotgun Messiah cd's : "Second Coming" and "Violent New Breed" for further examples of this underrated players talent.
far too widdly, that is
