My two Gibsons, finally being Knuckled
« on: January 18, 2007, 05:39:10 PM »
We're off to the studio at the end of March, and i really wanted all the guitar work to be done on Bareknuckled guitars.

The only problem is i can't decide what sets/combinations to go for.

I play in a 4 peice thrash band called Sekhmet (http://www.myspace.com/sekhmetuk). I genrally don't have my sound to gainy or saturated, i preffer it clearer and more articulate (hence Bare Knuckles), i cant really say who i'd like to base my tone on as i really want my own sound.
Outside of the band i try to play anything and everything as i love music, so something versatile would really be handy.

I play through a JCM 800 2205, i don't know much about the tubes, except that they are JJ's.

The first guitar is my Les Paul i would load up a picture but i've just formated my pc and its being. . . special.

I think this is the model here http://www.music123.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Limited-Edition-60's-Neck--Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar-i130194.music

Origionally i was thinking Emeralds, purely because of the clip i heard a while ago, but was wondering would they dirty up enough for playing in the band, as i don't want to lose a live guitar, but at the same time i'd love to use this for quieter stuff.

The other guitar is this  http://www.music123.com/Gibson-V-Factor-Faded-(Flying-V)-Electric-Guitar-Worn-Cherry-i73821.music

With this one i have no ideas, Holy Divers, Nailbombs, Ceramic War Pigs the list goes on. Basically at the moment this is my main live guitar I use the bridge pick up for all my distorted rythm playing, and i use the neck for all my clean playing, for lead work i like to mix between bridge, neck and in the middle.
Recently i was more inclined to nailbombs with the V but i just want to be sure.

I'm hoping to take my guitars in on Saturday and order up if i can figure out which sets i would like.

Also, i already have a Miricle Man set, a War Pig, a Sinner and two Mothers Milk

Cheers for your help.

Maybe I'm a little confused but you already have a guitar with Mircle Man's and Warpig why not just get those. Emeralds are for classic rock (Thin Lizzy stuff), I don't think they'd work for the kind of brewtal metal you're after.  I'd stick with the Miracle Man or get a Cermaic Warpig for the Les Paul, I've heard the alnico Warpig can sound too dark in a Les Paul you'll need the tightness of the Ceramic Magent to punch through all that mahogany.

Ps. Music is great!

Find another singer though :(

I've used a Nailbomb for well over a year now in the bridge of an LP, and it is a very articulate and versatile pickup. Although I don't have one in the neck, I think a set in the V for the kind of stuff you're doing would sound pretty good.

Had a listen on myspace too - you guys have some serious chops! Also really liked the intro to Desolate Earth, the contrasting clean picked parts work really well, and the vocals are a little bit Wishbone Ash!

Hope you get the tone you want, good luck.
Warpigs.

I like the War Pig and the Miracle man but want to try something different.

And thanks, we're really looking forward to the new recording, off to Philia Stuidios at Henly on Thames.
