I had an RG550. I always like how it sounded on recordings, always tight and defined. And the whammy bar was a lot of fun.

But I just couldn't get used to the feel of the neck and the Strat shape just doesn't fit my body frame for some reason.  :(  So I sold it.

But yes, they're good guitars if you don't mind these really thin necks.

They look really strange if you're short and stocky like me.  Vai definitely chose the shape to fit his own frame!

Not the size but the way the guitar falls (due to the upper horn). No problems with many other guitar shapes.

I'm surprised.  I would have thought the 16 of each colour would have been sold by now...

Yup, I'm an RG550 fan and owner! I have a 1992 RG550 in black, with the Lo-Pro Edge and Seymour Duncans (They were in it when I bought it, honest!). I bought it off ebay for £200 as it needed some work doing (mainly just a lot of TLC, as it was all rusty and filthy). I was going to sell it on, but to my downfall I fell in love with it and it is now my main guitar.

When I bought it off ebay, it had been sat in its case in a loft for 8 years, so that explains the condition of it. The body and such are in incredibly good condition, but the neck is nice and worn (through to the maple in places) - which I love the look of. I'm not a massive fan of the new ones, simply because they aren't making that many. I love mine anyway, and it's got the nice old neck joint :)

When I got it all the screws on the pickguard were rusty, as were a lot of the ones on the bridge, and the pickup poles were rusty too. The paintwork was as you see it now, but just a LOT dirtier. I stripped it down into ALL its parts, cleaned them all, and rebuilt it back up to what you see in the pictures. I replaced the pickguard screws and the switch mounting screws as they were too far gone, and I bought a trem arm and a switch tip as they weren't there when I bought it. The trem arm cost £15 though FFS!!. Gave it a setup, put some contact fluid on the switch (pots were fine), put some vaseline on the knife edges and this thing rocks now, and stays in tune forever!
