firstly- thats a fine guitar you have there mr.teddy-bear... congrats!!!

the shattered paintjob looks damn nice...

and i too have also just bagged myself an SLSMG... gorgeous, gorgeous guitars.

personally, my taste in pickups = always covered... i just think they look better in pretty much ever situation.

as for spacing im not sure... and colour wise i would probably go with black to match the hardware.

as for the SLSMG... well if its the satin-black finish like mine... then id be tempted to go with a really distressed cover... they turn out quite orange/bronzey which look STUNNING against matt-black finishes... either that or once again- plain black.

also, on a side note- what pickups are in there at the moment? EMGz in the MG? Seymours in the SL-1? neither? lol

im considering swapping out the EMGs in my SLSMG as well so id be interested to hear your views on that. :)

Well you'll definitely need 53mm spacing to go with the Floyd.

Not sure about colours - if it was up to me (which of course it isn't) I'd probably stick with all black.  Maybe cream, with zebra for the humbucker, would look good against the yellow bits in the finish.  And although I love covered HBs, I don't think it would look right on that guitar.

Just my tuppence worth.

for the SL-1 shown there i know i want black, and now i know i need 53mm spacing. im just not sure if i want covered or not. i dont think the singles can be covered which means if i covered the bridge pickup (which will either become a Holy Diver or a Nailbomb) there would be one covered with 2 not covered.. would that look weird? thats my main question for the SL-1 other than should i get a Nailbomb or Holy Diver. the current pickups in this SL-1 are Duncan Hot Rails in the neck and Middle and a Duncan Distortion in the bridge. My SLSMG is in the Eerie Dress Swirl finish, and currently has EMG-HZ pickups (which i loathe). i do not have a picture of it that i can post (mostly because i dont know how to shrink the filesize to fit on here), but i found a picture of one on google that looks just like mine and is the same model with same specs etc

for this one i know i want a cold sweat in the neck position but for the bridge im also choosing between the Holy Diver and the Nailbomb. For this one i dont know what spacing i would need, or what color or covered or not

i would say burnt chrome for the MG...

that would look insanely cool. the colours would tie in pretty much perfectly with the eerie dress swirl.

and as for nailbomb/holy diver... i have NO idea... but ive always fancied a nailbomb as a bridge humbucker...

whatever you choose- let me know how it sounds in the MG as like i said im considering pickups for that.

and ah- if the singles would be uncovered then i guess it would look odd with a covered humbucker...

thats what i figured. for the SL-1 im probably going to have to go all uncovered, and for the MG ill probably get covered. does anyone know what spacing i would need for the MG? also for the singles in the SL-1 do i want vintage stagger or flat profile? also what polarity do i want (stock or RW/RP)??

The singles will come with Fender-style covers (black, white or whatever you choose) and I'd recommend keeping them on unless there's no room in the pickup rout - exposed single-coils are pretty fragile.

Not sure about vintage stagger or flat profile - I'd probably stick with whatever is standard for the single-coils you choose (Tim knows what he's doing!   ).  And I'd go for RW/RP middle and stock neck (or vice versa) - that way it's hum-cancelling when both pickups are on.  If you buy an HSS set, I believe one pickup is RW/RP as standard.

For the spacing on your MG bridge pickup, I'd measure the actual spacing between the two "E" strings over the bridge pickup (where the polepieces would be if there were any!).  Then choose whichever spacing is closest - 50mm or 53mm.  The neck pickup should always be 50mm.
