Got my HD's fitted to my McCarty today. The neck pup is absolutely wonderful. However I regret going for such a powerful bridge pickup after all. I should have listened to the suggestions and gone lower output... I'm thinking Mule.

Sounds good to me! Maybe take the gain down on your POD and see if you like the change in tone.

Hmm yeah the bridge clip does sound a bit buzzy compared to the neck.

Not tried any Mules in a PRS but the VHIIs seemed to sound really good when I played the PRS at music live with em in

Good to know there's someone else on the forum who doesn't own huge stacks of Splawns, Laneys, Oranges, Engls or VHTs.

I don't feel quite so inadequate now.

Hehe. I sold my Rectoverb combo because it was too darn loud for the flat. Have never found a valve combo that had a nice tone at low volume yet. Not that it matters now I'm skint.

I know exactly what you mean.  I have a Rivera R55 combo but it's mostly used as a lamp stand and occasional footstool.

Nice Metallica and Mötley Crüe stuff!
Not sure what the second part of the bridge clip was tho

I actually like the bridge more than the neck :?

I've played with them some more and have decided that I want a set of Rebel Yell's instead. Disappointing thing is that I opted to buy from a dealer rather than direct with Tim. As such, Tim's policy of taking em back and rewinding to another model doesn't apply. And the dealer doesn't seem to want to know. So I may be ebaying these for a loss (after just 1 day of ownership). :(

If it's a case of the HDs simply being too powerful (as opposed to their actual tone), bear in mind that the RYs are pretty pokey too.  The bridge is about 14.5K (not that DC resistance is an absolute measure of "output").

Tone-wise, I believe the RY is brighter than the HD.

wow, that sound awesome!

also, it sounds like if EQ'd and with the right amount of gain could nail Dime's sound.... but obviously MUCH better, with more balls and more life.

I think the HDs are a little thick sounding for my already thick sounding guitar. I want a brighter sound. Slightly less powerful, slightly less modern. IF I can get the dealer to swap them I'll go for either the RY's or VHII's. Maybe Mules. I hear the RY's are a cross between Mules and VHIIs.

Basically, for the type of music I play, the HDs are too tight maybe, too clinical. Everyone told me that I'd do well to have a pair of Mules of VHIIs in my PRS and they were probably right. That'll cover the vast majority of tones I need. I just wanted the output for the sake of it really.

Maybe you are right. Maybe the RYs will also be too hot. Maybe the sensible thing to do to is to buy Mules. I generally play Motley, Slash, Halen, that sort of thing. The HDs are really aimed at the more metal player I think.
