Can you all help out a newbie????
« on: January 26, 2007, 03:43:50 PM »
Right guys, I've just learnt that in roughly two weeks time i have an assessment interview for the institute of contemporary music performance. Has anybody had one of these before, this is my first time doing something like this!!!

I was wondering if anybody could help me with a few pieces and exercises to play? I want to stay away from what everybody else would be doing (Eruption, Sweeping etc etc etc....)

Cheers guys, any help would be really appreciated!!!!

Hello mate

You should show an understanding of basic music theory, Major/minor scales, pentatonics, chord structures, cycle of 5ths possibley?

For pieces I guess its best to show some diversity, a fingerstyle piece maybe something classical or folky . Maybe a jazz piece like Giant Steps? I agree steering away from doing something by Steve Vai or Satriani everyone at those music schools tends to do them. Maybe an Eric Johnson piece would go down well, Manhattan or Cliffs of Dover?

Good Luck
