best way to wire a braided two conductor?

This has probably been asked a million times, but I couldn't really find the answer.

I have a set of mississippi queens, but I haven't put them in my guitar yet. the guitar has a tele style 3-way switch and two pots..do I just solder the outside part of the wires to the back of the pot or is there a better way to do this?

A lot of people like to open the braid and twist it into a strand that you can solder to the pot. This way you can tin it first and also you don't need to put as much heat into the pot.  However, with a tele style switch you will have a lot of wire between the switch and the pot, so in this case I would either solder another wire to the braid and then to the pot, or file the top of the pot and then solder the braid directly (if you have a good soldering iron - a pot is a very good heatsink!).
