Well, been getting so much GAS talking to you guys that I just ordered a Dean Vendetta 4.0. Should be here in a couple of weeks. Just gotta bag a couple of overtime shifts for a pair of Cold Sweats now. I'll post some pictures when I get it.

Good stuff buddy!

Deans are nice guitars - not my type of thing (too much like a Gibson) but when I have played them they have been lovely :D

Andy!

Ha, I'd almost forgotten that Dean thread.  Crazy Joe started it off but since then he's changed his mind about 100 times - he was last spotted in Ibanez land, I believe.

Glad somebody ended up buying a Dean, looking forward to the pics.

One would imagine if the set needs a trem guitar a backup may be in similar predicament.
And yes, a backup is preferable, pretty obvious really
Point is Floyds ARE time consuming.

Yes, however with a lot of practice it can be done in a matter of minutes, and the chances of a string breaking on another guitar in the same set are low. I havn't even heard of anyone breaking a string on stage, it all depends on the quality of the instrument i think.

Hmm, how many gigs have ya played then Joe?
Or seen for that matter?
I have seen hundreds and all to often in the heat of voracious playing a string can break. Of course, with 'big' bands a guitar tech does most of the 'donkey' work and indentical guitars abound often so a change is'nt often noticed by everyone.
LOVE to see ya change a double locking Floyd set-up in minutes BTW.

Oh and BEFORE ya ask. I played out since was about 16/17 yo in bands and am now in my 30's, so played enough to know abit
And have owned a double locking Floyd guitar which could def. NOT string change in 'a matter of minutes' although a 'matter' is subjective, do you mean 5,10,20..........?

I havn't played any gigs, i meant more professional bands, i have seen loads, as well as smaller bands in my town. None have broken strings, and i didn't mean me i meant other people, i mean there are plenty of youtube videos of people showing how to do it fairly quickly and they arn't even doing it at their speed. I meant 5-10 minutes really.

By the way, i have seen 2 MAJOR whammy abusers, Children of Bodom (alex laiho) and Dragonforce, they didn't break a string in their whole set.

Joe, I have seen thousands and it CAN be a pian in the arse!
In fact a guy I saw years ago (at end of set) broke 3 strings and was so fed up he continued into one of the BEST renditions of Silver Machine by Hawkwind I have ever heard on 3 strings :)

Point is, IMO, a Locking FLoyd 'can' be a thing of beauty. But beauty comes with a price.
I am NOT a trem lover (prefer vibrato) but sold my FLoyd guitar and went with the Petrucci which has a 'vintage' style trem, that is string through body and locking tuners. Tuning stability is immense and re-stringing is effortless.

I am NOT against Floyds just NOT my cup of tea and they DO take time to set up.
