Problem with my Strat?

Wierd, not quite sure how to write this so bare with me a little...

Recently, I've been using a different guitar and left my Strat in the cupboard (in hardcase) for around 4 months. When I put the Strat away was with fairly new strings.

Anyway, I got the Strat out today for a play and the bottom E and A strings sound so dull! This is without being plugged in. They just dont have the usual twang that I guess I'm used too... I'm not sure if it's becuase I'm now used to my new guitar and my Strat was always like that  - anyway, has anyone else found this? Does my Strat simply need a bit of a re-string and service?

I compared the USA strat to a Jap Strat I own, which are totally different in materials/string guage etc (Jap strat using a set of 9's etc) and the Jap Strat has THAT twang.

Wierd. Am a bit puzzled, not sure if my ears are playing tricks on me but the strings do sound very dull. Any ideas?

well it would make sense to change the strings i guess?

 they do dullen a considerable amount after time...

but then if you havent played it and its been in a hardcase, in a cupboard...

 i dunno..

You said the strings were fairly new-so they had been played a bit.Did you clean them before you put the guitar away? For the sake of a few quid, I'd firstly get a new strings on her.

Cool, yeah will restring tomorrow. Spoke to a guy in the local guitar shop and he said Fenders have a tendancy to "encourage" strings to go dead for some reason. He said, quite often, if a customer comes in the shop and asks to play a guitar that hasnt been played a while, it's usually the Fenders that have dead sounding strings.

Wierd... anyway I'll restring tomorrow and see how it goes.
