LP Studio need some change Pupwise
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:01:03 AM »
Hello Forum,

Here is my first post here. Unfortunately I won't be too original as you might have guessed from the title

So, I got this LP Studio (that I love  ) with the stock pups (490R & 498T) which are good if you don't intend to switch from one to another in the middle of run. Basically, when I set the amp for one, I am not getting a pleasing sound from the other. Though I like the idea of a medium output bridge pup coupled with a lower output neck pup.

I mostly want to play Alice in Chains and Velvet Revolver style of stuff with this one. What would be a good upgrade from what I have in the BKP range?

My guess would be Cold Sweats, or Black Dogs perhaps...if you email Tim Im sure he could nail it down for you.
The cold sweats would sound pretty serious for the Alice in Chains stuff and the Velvet Revolver/Slash black dogs would be my guess, Keep in mind that Slash allegedly uses A2 magnets in his pickups...

Thanks RGS,

The cold sweats seems to be the kind of pup I would like in the bridge of my Gibby. What could it be paired with in the neck position? Something that I could use to play nice clean stuff.

Would a HB size P90 would allow for a nice middle position sound with a fairly brutal pup as the cold sweat? Might not really fit for a rather modern sound...

I'm thinking an Alnico V Mule in the bridge with an Alnico IV Mule in the neck.

I have the MQ (BK HB P-90) in the neck of my Explorer with a Warpig bridge pickup, so you could certainly use it with the Cold Sweat.  However the Cold Sweat neck is a nice Alnico magnet pickup and does give great clean tones.
So many pickups, so little time

Sounds good but where did you find info on the cold sweat neck? I have not seen any mention of it in the cold sweat description page   :?:

I have one.  Tim told me the basic spec, and the rest was on the guarantee card.  I really do have all the BK Humbuckers

So I have been looking around @ different posts and Peter Antal was speaking about the Rebel Yell being a very versatile pickup. Could it fit in with what I am looking for?

Where could I find clips of the Cold sweat?
