I always associated him mainly with Grim Reaper, but before that I remember a picture in a very early issue of Kerrang! (or maybe it was a NWOBHM article in Sounds) featuring him in a band called Medusa with Lance Perkins (aka Lance Rocket of Wrathchild).

As usual, I can remember 25 years ago but not what I was doing last week...

That has to be the greatest/strangest ad concept of all time.  Ol' Steve is looking rough (not that he was ever an oil painting), but what a voice!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Oh yes Grim Reaper with Nick Bowcott on guitar!!

The ad is weird - looks like the hero/robot is pissing on the map monster at the end.

So Spinal Tap - but what a great voice that guy had.

There have been some great vocalists that got overlooked just because they were not MTV friendly

Nicky Moore from Samson was another great singer who like Steve Grimmet and Jon Oliva were great singers but didnt get the same publicity as some of the skinny guysfrom the same era
