Sperzel installation Q
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:44:38 PM »
Will sperzels fit on a guitar that has grovers on it?  I know there is a pin instead of a screw mount on the sperzels, but I was wondering if the pin on the sperzels would just cleanly fit in the hole vacated by the the grovers screw. Or does a seperate hole have to be tapped?

When I installed mine on my Strat I had to drill a small hole for each tuner.

The Grover's screw hole is "below" the shaft of the tuner, and the Sperzel's pin is "above" - so you'd have to install the Sperzel upside down even if it did fit.

In any case, the hole would need to be drilled a little bigger for the Sperzel's pin, so you wouldn't be able to easily put the Grover back at a later date.

as a side note, and to put any of our expense in perspective, the infamous Peter Green Les Paul, which started life with Kluson tuners, had Grovers by the time Gary Moore got it and at some point he replaced them (had them replaced) with Sperzels.

locking Sperzels are very good by the way.
