Best way to post an amp?

I'm thinking of selling my Fender HRDx as I just dont use it any more since I got my Laney (I even prefer the Laney when its set for clean).. thing is I dont have the box it came in and I've never posted an amp, so havent really got any idea what to do..

Any tips?

Was thinking get some boxes from co-op or something, loads of bubble wrap and newspaper around the amp, and bubble wrap around the valves?

Also, who should I get it posted by? Parcel Force or City link maybe?

I would even try a music store to see if they have any boxes.  Either mailing company would do.  With my experience, City Link were very good and extremely fast.

ParcelForce are surprisingly efficient, they'll even do same-day collections from your house.  Don't know how they compare pricewise with City Link.

get it bubblewrapped up - use the big bubble stuff since it offers WAY more protection than the small bubble stuff you get at home-depot/staples etc...

use at least two layers of cardboard - boxes from the supermarket are ok but amp boxes from a local music store will be your best bet.

finally get some brown parcel tape and tighten up all the packaging round the amp.

I get my bubblewrap and corrogated-cardboard by the roll from a packaging warehouse close to where I work.  It's around £40 for 100m of bubblewrap, same of cardboard and a box of parcel tape.  sounds like a chunk to pay out but I include a packaging charge in my ebay auctions to cover my costs.

It works out cheaper in the long run if you sell on ebay alot.

oh, and Parcel2Go are by far the cheapest to use when sending big parcels.  Parcelforce have a 20kg weight limit - a 100w Marshall head is around this weight.

Tom, how much are you looking for for the Fender?

The singer in my band is after an amp and has shown an interest in Fenders, so may be able to get you a quick sale ;)

I dont actually know yet, as I'm still yet to have sorted out the input jacks  :oops: Gonna order some contact cleaner soon to see if they just need cleaning. The amp is in perfect condition, no tears or anything, so I'd hope for around £400 if I could get that much. I'll have to look more into it really though.

If youre posting, make sure the power cable is secured in the amp firmly. If it moves around it could hit stuff and damage things like your speaker etc. Just put some bubble wraps in or you could tape it down.

If youre meticulous/sad with too much time like me, you could do this and make corner supports:
- cut a thick cardboard into squares say, about 30cmx30cm
- fold it into 4 then open again
- cut along one of the four lines to the centre of the square
- fold it at right angles and tape the overlapping bits
- make 7 more!    :lol:

Haha funnily enough I have never watched that program in my life because I only moved here when I was 12. Shame that, it sounds like a perfect program for me.
