The A5 WP is more organic, mids are more detailed and the highs are sweeter.

CWP is more surgical, higher gain (though not by that much), tighter and sharper with smoother mids.

I'd go for the CWP if youre leaning toward very fast, precise heavy music, WP if you love mids and arent gonna play anything that needs to much exactitude: the WP can do that but the CWP does it better.

Hope this helped.

Don't know if this helps, but I plan on uploading a clip of my Ibanez with the Ceramic Warpig pretty soon. It will be "Worlds Within The Margin" by In Flames recorded through a Damage Control Demonizer.

judging by soundclips i prefer the alnico pig
the ceramic sounds tighter and heavier, but too bright and crispy
i wanna hear some alnico miracle man clips :?

if you can, that would be great!

do you think that Tim could wind the CWP to make it sound less bright? because right now, the brightness of the pickup sounds too much for my liking....... hmmmm and i would also like to have an organic tone myself...... this is a hard one....

I would approach it the other way then...I'd ask him to wind an Alnico V Warpig to be brighter, if that's even necessary. Both sound great to me in the sound clips, but to confirm, the CWP is quite bright.

TonyGibson,

do you have some heavy demonizer clips?

i've read about a 23k overwound alnico miracle man
i'm curious about how it sounds  :?
maybe like a sharper and less mid-heavy alnico warpig  :P

Here's a quick and dirty clip I did two seconds ago. Basically it's my Ibanez with the ceramic painkiller into my Maxon overdrive into the Demonizer into the POD xt via USB. Don't mind the sloppiness...I did it quickly as I gotta get to bed soon. I'll record some better ones in a few days. The next ones I'll record will be much cleaner and without the POD...meaning it will be the Demonizer straight into the computer.

so, the CWP is really bright?

ugh, I don't want a really bright pickup... this complicates things even further  :(

Don't you mean Ceramic Warpig????
It sounds very awesome, but i can see the brightness now, which isn't what i want. Alnico it is then, i suppose.

I have an Alnico WP set in an SG, definitely dark ... can't compare to the ceramic pigs other than the clips I've heard - but based on that I would agree with MDV. The Alnico Pig is more middy (NOT muddy) and has a warmer sound than the ceramic version. Can do a pretty precise chug too, I must get round to uploading some clips sometime ...

My sole reason for picking ceramic is that this guitar will eventually (as in this week) be tuned to C Standard and Drop B. I would *think* that a ceramic pickup would be better for that top of tuning than Alnico due to the clarity and bite of the ceramic magnet. That's all theory of course and I'm sure the Alnico works for alternate (lower) tunings as well.

Also, I'm generally playing this guitar through a Mesa/Boogie which I consider to be a very dark amp as it is. Combine the toppy nature of the CWP with the dark nature of Mesa amps and you have a pretty well rounded (yet devestating) metal sound.

Bloodmountain, just so you know, I CRANKED the tone control on my Maxon and Demonizer...I personally like a very bright sound, so don't think that's what it always sounds like. I can try to post another one tonight without the Maxon.
