What Genre would you call this?
« on: February 13, 2007, 08:58:12 PM »
hi

i really like this song, and i know it's by a metal band, but it's not a metal song. you might not like it, but i do, so don't give me "sounds like a tasteless piece of cr@p"!
Is it acoustic folk? is it folk? is it finnish something?

Sounds like an acoustic ballad by a Heavy Metal band
Heavy Metal unplugged?

Rather nice in my opinion

Not a million miles from what Metallica did on the black album

Don't know about that song but Amorphis are like Folk death metal if there was ever such a thing.

Never mind genre labels, if it's good it's good.  And that song is good.

There is a hint of Metallica about it, and I like the "House Of The Rising Sun" organ in the background!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Yeah that's cool - as Jon said like the Black Album, but I would add (being a folky) that the sort of acoustic guitar style can be heard in more melancholic songs by people like Martin Carthy (not that I would recommend you buy any albums as its right proper folk)
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

Amorphis is a great band. They started out as a death metal band, and now their music ranges from progressive death to ambient style metal in the vein of VAST and all points in between. They have something like 9-10 albums out at this point.

I couldn't say much about Amorphis but Skyclad were a pretty good band back in the day. Thrash with Fiddles and Mandolins!
