What are people recommendations for good pair of active studio monitors. I'm hoping not having to break the bank too much...£250, £300 might be a stretch though. any help is much appreciated thanks.

£300 is really not going to get you much in the way of monitors - the Genelecs that TO recommended are very good but sadly out of your price range. You may be able to find the budget end of the KRK monitors within your price range. They're active and come with decent enough reviews.

Don't forget though that monitors on their own aren't upto much cop - really you'll need decent stands (or iso pads) and some basic acoustic treatment for the room you're using them in. Which needn't cost the earth, but is worth budgeting for.

Future Music magazine recently did a round up, and they recommend Samson Rubicon R5A - from GAK for £197

I'd definitley go for the KRK Rockit range, they should be in your price range and they have a much better sound than most of the competition. Try some out you'll be surprised! It's totally your choice though.
