I have a peavey v type with miracle men and it goes straight into a randall rh150g3 with a randall 2x12. then i have a boss ge7 and samson compressor/gate.

But i want to uprade to a full valve amp. the randall has 1 valve in the preamp section. But it doesnt seem to do its job very well.

so im looking for a new amp combo with extension posibility. or a new amp head. nothing big and loud just high gain and versitile with a good effects loop. full valve aswell and under £600. Any recommendations?

ive thought about an ashdown or hayden. They look like good value. If anyone has one could they give a quick summary of them as i cant find much info on them.

I played an Engl Screamer once and it was very versatile and good and had a screaming higain sound in that range of $

Since you already have a cab i think it would be pretty logical to get a head because it will be cheaper.
I have only played 1 proper tube amp head and thats my Laney GH50L, does anything you want, great tones for all different kinds of music.
But it depends what your into really.

GH50L is not that versatile if you need a clean channel.

Laney TT head would fit the bill, Marshall DSL - anyting like that.

yeah, but you could always assign your neck pickup to do a clean tone (i.e volume way down) then use the pickup selector to change between the two.... ok, you have to sacrifice the neck's OD/Distorted tone, but if clean is more important (for the song) then it's worth it.

problem with assigning neck to clean tone when you're playing through a distorted channel with high gain settings is that it will sound like shite.

yeah that's true, but if you coil split it, then it should sound fine.

I agree that if you want great clean single channel amps are out of the question, however good they are for pure sounds. Another bad thing for assigning neck pup for clean is you'd only get smooth clean. What if you want a jangly clean?

Laney VH100R is £600 exact in most online shops, much cheaper if you can find one on eBay (I couldnt, damn it). Great amp really versatile and awesome sounds. Im still experimenting with the set ups but the distortion is brutal (as in heavy, not saturated), think Opeth. I prefer the clean on the VH to my Fender. The crunch is great for some bluesy stuff but its not the amp's forte. Dont be put off by the 100 watts (I was, before trying it) it smoothes out nicely at normal practice level. Hell, it sounds great even at bedroom volume. The only negative is the weight it weighs a tonne.

I know Im biased, but I know I love mine.

Fail that, if you want a full on high death metal gain go for a Fireball if you can find one at a good price.

i play mostly modern metal like soilwork but ill like to play nice clean stuff too with a tad of grunt though. i think ide need two channels and ide use all the different variations in pickups for each channel.

if only all of us good get a fireball. god, you look at the price compared to other high end amps, and you think "it's dead cheap!" but then you snap back into reality, and its a lot of money. Thomann have them for about £660 which means free postage i think...
I might have to buy a GH50L new.... if i convince my folks that it's awesome! i'll just go to HC then haha....
about the neck clean thing...... if you split it, it will still sound slightly more jangly than a non-split humbucker. obviously not like a SC, but still clean enough for me :)

i really want a GH50L..... i've spent the last month looking around the web, still haven't found a match in terms of tone for the price.

crate blue vooodoo 150. 3 channels, with 150 watts of headroom, the clean will stay clean, but at the same time, it can saturate VERY quickly. Good for getting anything from classic rock tones all the way to cannibal corpse. I HIGHLY recommend looking into one of these.

Can change the sound by swapping the modules ;)

Or a Screamer is a great choice!

i think they're only for pros that either have a load of money or are endorsers of MTS amps.
