Hey guys

Theres  a dude at college selling an engl screamer 50 watt combo.
Whats the general opinion on them?

Ive read the reviews of them on HC and they get an amazing rating.

Should i flog my laney and upgrade to this bad boy?

Which Laney do you have?

The Screamer is a very good amp. Glassy cleans and a awesome distortion. Though on 2 seperate occasions the amps stopped working on me and no one could figure out what was wrong with it. But it could of just been those amps by chance being faulty. I did like the screamer alot, I even considered selling most of my amp gear to get a Screamer combo but I couldn't get the money in time.

depends on your playing style really. the screamer gets a lot of kudos generally on this forum. Great sounding amp; very versatile - and it even sounds great at low volumes   how much is it going for?

I think the screamer is very nice- however, if you have a little more cash (and depending on what you play) I think I like the blackmore more. Also, it depends what your laney is, lol.

I love the amp!

But a friend of mine has one and I think it's very harsh, this could be because of how he EQed it, or because of the guitar he's using.

i had one, sold it to Telboy on here.

It was great!

I only sold it as i NEVER play amped and only use my Guitarport, and i needed the cash (actually sold ALL my gear except my 2 guitars lol)

Also had an ENGL Fireball..

Both great amps, Screamer is all round good, Fireball just a metal amp really.

If the price is right, he should try it, and hopefully buy it 8)

I cant fault ENGL's to be honest, the guy i sold my Fireball to has gigged it loads (Michael Angelo Batio even used it at a guitar clinic :P), and before that he had an ENGL Thunder, which was great aswell.

The Screamer was my first valve amp, and i wish i'd never sold it.

Fantastic amp... get one!

Cheers guys.

Its going for £550, its got the Z5 footswitch too so its a bit of a bargain i think. Only a year old too.

Ive now got an LC50 (traded it in for my LC30). Its a great amp but im having to use a pedal with it to get a bit more gain, which is why im interested in the screamer. The clean channel is really important to me too as that gets used for alot of intos and clean breakdowns.

The stuff i play is like modern rock like Biffy Clyro, Hell Is For Heroes and 30 Seconds To Mars that sorta stuff.

Ive noticed that they are only like £720 new on thomann inc footswitch.

Of what I've seen amps don't decrease in value by much, seeing as they're rather hard to damage. 550 for a 2nd hand screamer sounds roughly right. All Engl's I've played have been absolutely lucious, so unless you think the price is too steep go for it imo.

Thats not the amps natural state.

I've had mine for over a year now. It started very much smoothe than it is now. Now its brittle and difficult to play. I suspect it needs the valves replaced and so does your mates.
