Frazzled! Need help with pickup choice for strat!!
« on: February 22, 2007, 03:09:02 AM »
I've got information overload with everything I've read and the clips I've heard. Here's my question/dilema (I've e-mailed all of BKP's addresses with this, but no reply so far).

I've just acquired a 62' reissue stratocaster. I intend on replacing
the pickguard with one routed for a single humbucker at the bridge and
one single coil at the neck. The body is alder I believe and the neck
maple with a rosewood fretboard. My dilema is which bridge pickup
would best serve both a hard rock/heavy metal tone with tight low end,
good (but not overwhelming) mids and highs but also clean up nicely
when the volume is rolled off. It would help you to know that I play
through an Engl Fireball as well as a Peavey 6505 amp.

From what I've read it sounds like the Warpig (non-ceramic) would be
my best bet, but I defer to your expertise and judgement. Can/will you
enlighten me?? Thanks so much in advance!

Also, in addition to the descrition I listed, it may help to give an example of the type of sound I'm looking for from a "high-gain" standpoint -

I am a Strat player but sorry I can't help with a suggestion for the bridge humbucker-hopefully someone else here will be able to.

I would recommend the VHII for massive rock tone. I have only had mine a week but its everything i need, deep, warm and natural but never to much. Its a different animal to the Mule which demands you to dig in every note whereas the VHII is a bit more effortless and fluid. It would really fill out a alder bodied strat.
Mule,Trilogy,Irish Tours,Holy Diver and Apaches.
