VH II noise question...
« on: February 22, 2007, 06:28:32 AM »
Hey guys, I have a VH II in one of my guitars and I was wondering comparitavely to my set of mules the VHii is pretty dang noisy, almost single coil noise status, the mules in comparison are waaay quiet, I dont have my guitar with Rebels in them to compare the pickups, so I was wondering if anyone else had this experience.  Could it just be a grounding issue/wiring issue? Any help would be appreciated...

I know that the VHII has a heavily offset winding which would make it less humbucking than a symmetrically wound pickup, but I think Tim said it's not a big enough difference to make it noisy. Sadly I haven't had a chance to try a VHII yet (I really want one!) so I can't be anymore helpful.
Steve does have both the VHII and Mule though so I'm sure he can help.

are you sure you have it earthed right? Cos when i make my guitars generally the pickups are noisy due to bad earthing.
Must make the best guitar ever!!

seems to be the general concensus that the grounding is bad/faulty, Im taking it in tommorow to have a dude look at it.  I emailed Tim and it seemed like it was something out of the normal...

Hey steve since you have both the mules and the VHII let me ask you a question if you have your hand away from the strings, how much noisier are teh VHII's than the Mules?
Hey Matt...it sounds like you and I have the same deal, Im waiting on a reply email from Tim and to see what steve says as regards to the hand off the string because the mules set I have is so damn quiet it makes me think...

My miracleman does the same then again my volume pot is naffed just makes the guitar buzz a lot if i turn it down but if i touch the strings or the bridge then it all goes away im gonna get a pro to rewire it all properly for me when i get my cold sweat
