OK, but prepare to wince :)

I bought it for £230 in 1985 - a good price even in those days IMO.  Sadly, it didn't have a case so I used to keep it in a cheap unpadded soft sleeve.

It met with 3 (yes, three) accidents within a few weeks of each other, at the end of which the headstock had parted company with the neck & the neck had pretty much parted company with the body :(

1) Typical mistake - left guitar leaning against amp, turned my back on it, crunch
2) Headstock was hit by passing van while I was waiting at a pedestrian crossing
3) Fell down some steep stairs running to catch a train & landed on head (the guitar, not me - I just got a grazed elbow, hole in the knee of my jeans, & severe case of embarrassment)

It sat around in pieces for a few months before I got round to taking it to a repair man.  He told me that it would cost more to repair than the guitar had cost in the first place.  I said "OK don't bother" & GAVE the pieces to him to throw away :!: :!:  (WTF was I thinking?!!?  Even at 15 years old I should've been smarter than that!)

Nowadays I look at the prices for old Gibsons, remember that it was a nice guitar to play (don't believe all this bunk you read that all 70s Gibsons are poor quality), & wonder whether the repair guy repaired it & sold it or just kept it for himself...

Yep, certainly is.

The one guitar-related thing I regret above all others (even the 70s SG) is not having the Fernandes FR120 any more.

The RRP was £729 in 1988 (must be going senile to remember such trivia :)), after some attempted bargaining I px'd my Charvel model 3 and Kramer for it.  Some might call that a bad deal, but the Fernandes was a beautiful guitar - far superior to the Charvel or Kramer - & I REALLY wanted it.

In 1990/91 I went through a bad time (long story), gave up guitar for a year or so & sold all my stuff :(

When I started playing again, I searched high & low for another one (& many times since), but haven't been able to track one down.  By all accounts it was an expensive guitar for the time & there weren't many in the UK anyway.  Those who have them are probably keeping hold (wise people).

Perhaps I'm seeing it through rose-tinted specs, but if someone offered me a pristine FR120 with the trem in full working order, I'd pay a grand without even blinking & would give serious thought to handing over one of my US Jacksons in exchange...

Important lesson for the inexperienced: When approaching a pedestian crossing carrying a guitar in a major city with heavy fast moving traffic, don't march right up to the kerb - the neck of the guitar sticks out about 2ft in front of you

The incident wasn't quite as dramatic as it sounds & nothing actually broke until the stair incident, but I'm convinced the earlier 2 mishaps had a cumulative effect.  The guitar was never quite the same after it fell over - started having tuning problems that I hadn't before, then after the van incident I noticed a crack where the headstock pitches.  So by the time the break happened, it was already my least favourite guitar, probably why I handed the bits over so casually...

Haven't yet sold a guitar

first, a cheap nylon string acoustic. currently in the attic
Then i bought a fender strat, apparently jap made, but probably fake. Unless it really is a 58, in which case i'm a tit. The frets are quite worn, and the screws that hold the saddles up keep on winding down. Currently on loan to the bassist, but im thinking of a Gotoh-wilkinson VSVG and a warmoth neck to get it going again.
Then My tokai, loverly! would have BKP's but I'm incapable of saving up...
In the frigging post, due here tommorrow... Maple fretboard charvel!!!   £85
Feline Custom, Fender MIJ mustang bass
Orange rocker 30
VHII and Mississippi queen

It was very nice in some regards but the tone was...to be honest...terrible. The poplar body with the dimarzio pickups just gave a painfully sterile and ear splittingly harsh tone....imo at least. I like thick mellow sounds as a rule so it was totaly a bad choice but i had always wanted one and it was a bargin and i ended up making a profit on it so.....

Here's my 2 cents  :) :
Currently own:
Yamaha Pacifica 812W (a bit of which is visible in my avatar)
Epiphone Les Paul Standard (much modified - refret, locking tuners, all pots and switches changed, coil taps and now Mules!)
Fender Lite Ash Telecaster
PRS SE Singlecut (currently wondering which BKs to put in this!)
Yamaha APX4 electro-acoustic
ESP Ltd M302 (currently for sale)
Yamaha RGX 420 Drop6 (also currently for sale)

Previously owned:

Yamaha Pacifica 112 - my first guitar, now doing service with a friend who started playing last year, having been previously sold to another friend who kept it in a cupboard for 6 years instead of playing it.
Ibanez RG470 - traded against the ESP, with no regrets.

Next project, which the ESP and Drop6 are being sold to help fund:
A Warmoth VIP (the planned new home for my Warpigs, which are currently annoying the hell out of me because they are sitting in a box, not helping me create mayhem!)

BTW Antag, how does your Warmoth VIP stand up to the PRS guitars? I'm curious as to how close I can get for half the price!
Warpigs.
