$700-$1400 budget for new left hand guitar...advice
« on: February 24, 2007, 02:11:52 AM »
Another day of walking into guitar center(or any music shop). Watching my friends play very nice guitar while i sit and look at the same old mexi strat i have at home. Well not anymore!! I am about to buy a new axe, since I can't play the guitars i need some advice.

These are the guitars I am looking at.

Gibson SG Standard
Strat '62 reissue
American Deluxe Strat
Les Paul Studio
'72 Tele Thinline Custom(2 humbucker)
Carvin DC127

I play a lot of styles, but mainly rock, jazz, some blues, and some neo-classical type stuff.  I play a lot of riffs and fast jazz type runs and need something with a fast neck. The only guitar I have played on that list was a Les Paul Studio, but the neck was in bad shape due to neglect, but I do like the spacing on the frets 1-12. The frets seem smaller than on my start, but then again I don't know how higher end strats play. Any advice would be much appreciated....thanx

You have strats and les pauls in the same list so I'd think you were a quite open minded guy... But why is it mostly only Gibsons and fenders?

I wouldn't suggest either for that budget, due to current quality control issues. You dislike Ibanez/Schecter/ESP/Godin/Carvin etc?
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.

yeh i am pretty open minded, though i am leaning towards a guitar with  hum in the neck and bridge. I don't dislike Ibanez, Godin, or Carvins. I was looking at CT6M's for awhile, Iv'e heard a lot of good things about Carvins, but have also read some horror stories about people waiting weeks for thier guitar to be built and then once they got it, had to send it back and wait for several more weeks due to defects. But Iv'e heard a lot more good than bad. What do you think about the DC127??
