Apache Vintage Stagger or Flat Profile???
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:40:21 AM »
Hi All

Can someone please tell me the difference in tone (If Any) between the Vintage Stagger and the Flat Profile Apache's.

I will be using them in my Custom Shop 56 NOS Strat.

Which ones to get???

Many thanks

Alan

it is quite subtle, but for a 56 I would get the vintage stagger (this comes in 2 styles, 54 and vintag.  The vintage stagger makes the top E & B lowest, then the bottom E & A, with the D & G tallest. The 54 has the G magnet lower and A higher.

I like the 54 stagger on my apaches.  I think the sound with them is very even.  I have them in a 57 strat.
So many pickups, so little time

This is the message that Tim send in reference to the Apaches." The Apaches that I currently make use the '56-59 stagger which most players prefer-I've actually had the Alnico III  magnetised to the same gauss as original '54s we've tested. The wind is Heavy Formvar to '54 spec except for the bridge which I've tweaked a little, just to balance it out better against the other two coils.

If you want '54 stagger I can grind down a set of Alnico III magnets to this spec no trouble, I'd also advise having a stock wound middle coil too as I think the overall tone is better than RWRP in this instance". It was of great help when I got mine. :)
