Good match for a Black Dog Neck PUP???
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:59:33 PM »
Hey all,
Im in love with the Black Dog neck PuP and am ready to buy but I cant decide on a hot bridge PuP to match. I was leaning towards the cold sweat or maybe crawler. I play mostly high gain drop tuned blues rock . Think Pantera, clutch, soil tone.

I will be putting these in my swamp ash Les Paul backed by a randall RM100. Any help you could lend would be great.
Thanks,
Shane

carlaz's Crawlers sound pretty brutal downtuned.  In a swamp ash guitar I think they'd sound sick.

Ratrod will also back up the evilness of downtuned Crawlers, I think. :)

Crawlers were designed for heavy blues rock, but reveal hidden depths with low tunings. There's that vintage voice, but also plenty of power to pack into the tone (the Crawler bridge is rated at 15k, which sits it between the Cold Sweat and the Nailbomb in terms of DC ratings).

They are "darker" than Rebel Yells, but that should be just the ticket here, IMO.

I'd say Holy Diver or Crawler - as to their descriptions. I have BlackDogs and Rebels myself and I wouldn't expect them to be a great match (rather Rebel neck and BD bridge could be nice indeed).

The BD neck is quite fat, so a fat bridge pickup like the HD should be it I think ...

Well I pulled the trigger on a Black Dog neck and Crawler Bridge and asked for them to be completely flat black. Should look pretty sinister me thinks.

I can hardly wait to get these puppies. I hope the install goes well just my luck Ill screw it up somehow. Ill get some before and after recordings and all Ill change is the PUP's so you can get a good side by side comparison.
Thanks for all the help,
Shane

must be a secret pro technique, for those in the know ;)

 Gets better results than you'd think! Sadly my mum stole the box for use elsewhere ¬.¬ I'm using stacked up dvd cases now, all because I'm too cheap to buy a proper stand :D

Quote from Tim,

"Holydiver is good..............I'm using that right now on the new IcedEarth EP and album, I've got a BD neck too. kind regards Tim"

Im gonna call and see if I can change my order. You guys are correct Tim has excellent customer service and I feel so bad and even embarrassed that I flip flop so often. Ill post clips when I get the new pickups.
