monte allums boss ge-7 eq pedal - short review

after doing the mod, almost any half-decent op-amp will p1ss over the junk that boss fitted in those ge-7s in my opinion

I did the full Plus kit in one go to a Taiwan made pedal.  It's fiddly, so take your time so you don't fry the board.  Use a solder sucker to clean the joints as you remove components.

I think I took a couple of hours or so with a few coffees and Rock Radio in the background!

curious to ask what you thought of the modded pedal?

I may get the kit...but with a gig coming up and shipping time 2 to 3 weeks, before it gets stuck in customs....I may just buy the capacitors and opamps and do it myself.

However, struggling where to find the NE5532AP op amp and sockets.  Well I've found Farnell for the op amp but not the sockets..

Any ideas?

I found the Monte Allums kit to be a MASSIVE improvement over the noisy and cr@p stock pedal.  It's a bit of a squeeze in there, and I've had to open it up a few times to cure a couple of grounding issues against the case (the chunky op-amp holders being the cause of this).

I bought my EQ pedal used, so for the £70 or so it's cost me in total I'm happy.  I use it for rehearsals, but my main rig for gigs has an Empress ParaEQ.

Turns out I have the older 4 op amp model, anyone know what capacitors need to be swapped?  Do you think just swapping out the op amps below would clean up the noise?

No idea mate - I just used the full kit and instructions, which are worth the price to me.

Heh, I ordered a Tonejam premodded one years ago when the dollar was weak (in spiffy matt black paint & OTT green LED). It sat in my kit box for ages but have recently been using it as a clean boost. It's dead silent and adds a nice kick to proceedings.

yes it will. but you'll be missing out on some usability improvements. Monte's capacitor changes make the controls less spikey.

i agree, definately worth the price. plus monte is a real gentleman
