Getting in shape for LGS ... PART 2 (LYNCH DOJO Content)
« on: March 16, 2007, 01:57:29 AM »
Last year around this time I started a thread titled something like "How are you getting in shape for LGS" and it featured some of the warmup exercises I was working on at that time.

After last year's LGS, I enrolled in George Lynch's Guitar Dojo ... and had no time to do anything about it. The semester has almost ended, and I'm about 72 lessons behind!! PDT_008.

So ... I re-enrolled and have made it my goal to work on the backlog of lessons every night.

Obvoiusly, fans of George Lynch will simply love the Dojo; it's got all kinds of exclusive stuff like being able to ask George questions directly as well as sending him videos and audio samples of your playing and he will critique your playing and give you guidelines on what to improve.

But even if you're not a fan of Dokken or Lynch Mob, and you are wanting to improve your left hand strength and legato technique, I would highly recommend joining. After one hour of practice, I am already getting some cool ideas based off of the lessons in the Dojo. The Dojo is NOT just a cash grab by Lynch. It's like taking a lesson from him. (Remember: Lynch took over Randy Rhoads' student roster when Rhoads got his gig with Ozzy) Also, enrollment is limited to X amount of students each semester, which is pretty cool, though I think there are far fewer students than the maximum enrolled. (Just a hunch)

So, now that I've had some time going through the Dojo, feel free to ask any questions you might have about it!!

This example is based off of one of the lessons in the Dojo. I practice it chromatically up the neck, and all 4 sets of 3 strings.

TO, apologies for the threadjack, but what do you use to write the music in that pic (presuming it's a screenshot?)

Is there any software where you fill in the tab & it does the music notation for you? (I confess, I can't read music anymore  - used to be able to when I played piano as a child, but quit when I was 12 & have totally lost the skill...)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

I use Guitar Pro; it's the best guitar writing software!

You export the image as a bmp, so it looks dead clean, then convert it to a jpg in Paint. :)

You can also write TABs out in SONAR Producer if you have that.

Any Racer X or Mr Big is great for getting your playing in shape.

I've been learning some Necrophagist lately. Also been trying to improve on the melodic side of things like Allan Holdsworth type chords and playing along to songs to train my ear better.

last night after we finished talking, i fooled around a bit, made two chromatic runs and went to bed.

today was a bit better. got two/three repeats on the finger killer exercises. spent too much time looking for tabs though.

tomorrow i'm out of town for most of the day. picking up the mahogany jackson. should be home till 3. i'll probably go wire it up :P then practice!

Wow, thanks TO - just been playing around with the demo - this thing is great.  I'm going to buy the full version :D

Here's part of one of my simpler solos that I just did.  It's a good deal less challenging than the stuff TO posts
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

yea. i'm at the point where it's really tedious working on it. i got the speed, but my left hand coordination is like nonexistant. i got a handful of licks, that i used in the past couple of years, now i'm working on new ones and it's a slow progress, cos i want to get them right.

Well, I'm loving the Dojo, and have already started incorporating stuff into my leads. And it's only been a few days!!
