A/B Pedals ?

I'm looking into getting an AB selecter pedal so i can flick between the normal channel and the top boost channel on my VOX AC30 custom classic amp, or to switch between two seperate amps (clean and driven).

I've done a quick search on the net and so far come up with the following :

BOSS AB-2 - selector pedal - silent switching - £29

MONKEY FX  Switcheroo - has a lot more features  - audio transformer to prevent hum or treble loss, buffering to prevent loading of 'pups - £65

I don't really know what spec. I need but want something that will not mess up my guitar tone/signal too much but don't need something with a zillion buttons and features that i wont use.

Has anyone any experience with either of these pedals, I'm tempted to go with the Boss pedal as it seems to have good features - silent switching, they are a good quality brand and not too expensive.  Is the mnkeyfx worth considering, would I need such a high spec for an A/B pedal ?

Any recommendations welcome.

DOD makes one for cheap, and it wont suck tone like a boss because its true bypass.

Either that, or you could make one by yourself... just a metal box, dpdt stomp switch, 3 jacks, some decent wire....

do they make SPDT stomps?  I know they make DPDT stomps, but then some people dont utilize their abilities which basically makes it act like an SPDT... this is assuming dpdt is the one with 6 leads, and the spdt is the one with 3...

SPDT would be 1 input in and 2 outputs.

Thus 1 guitar in, and 2 amps/2 channels out.

Cheers for the advice fellas, just been lookin around on fleabay for examples of the pedals you mentioned, nothing doing.....  but there was a Soundlab AB-10 going for £10 , anyone know if they're ok for a cheapy ?

Haven't found a price for a DOD yet, only Uk site I could find them listed on said phone for price, anyone know of a cheap supplier for these, look good on paper.

No matter which one you decide to get, you should really make sure it has a tranformer on the output to prevent noise. Hope you find something you like!

I only use what I think is the best, and recommend it wholeheartedly, based on actually using the stuff in the real world. I can't recommend stuff I haven't personally used, which most everyone else on the internet does. Pls keep the thread on topic.

I have used 3 or 4 A/B/Y switchers in real life, and have personally owned 2: Radial, HBE, Bradshaw/Custom Electronics Design, and Morely. The Morley was by far the most coloured. For the $$, the HBE does more and sound totally transparent.

I don't think that's fair. Everyone recommends what they like, if you like it enough you frequently buy it yourself. And I've seen ben give loads of advice on stuff that (as far as I know) he doesn't own.

so is the general consesus that I need an AB pedal with some sort of built in circuitry/transformer to compensate for a drop in signal ?

Do you get much drop in signal with a simple type of AB pedal, I've never used one before.

Not for the drop in signal, but to avoid differing ground potentials to create unwanted noise.

A buffered output would be used for what you mentioned, and all of the A/B/Y pedals that I know of that have a transformer-coupled output also have a buffer circuit.
