It's often mentionned that this forum has a wealth of experience and different musical styles, which is very much a strength of the community here. There are also some members who are enjoying success with various bands (TO, 38th, Ratrod, Brow, Willo, Twinfanetc).

So I thought it was about time we had a thread to discuss and talk about our current bands or projects. Please limit discussion to current musical concerns instead of past glories ("man, back in '63 I was in a far out jazz skiffle beat combo, we played some blinding gigs"), maybe we could have a thread for those too ;) So stick up links and talk about what we're all currently upto :)

Could be interesting to see what different musical bases we've got covered here, and maybe lend support when fellow BKP acts pasd through our local venues :)

Right, figured I'd get the ball rolling.

I'm currently in an acoustic two piece, mainly playing mandolin, acoustic guitar, lap steel, and violin, although occasionally my Mule loaded Epi comes out to play too. We play music that is born out of the dual influences of English folk (Eliza Carthy, Johnny Dickinson) and 1960's flavoured Americana (Gram Parsons, Ryan Adams, The Decemberists, Smog).

9th April will see our debut e.p The Boy with Pomegranates in His Eye being released, and we're currently lining up some summer gigs in Devon, as I'll be in Totness for 3 months. Our slowly growing website can be found at: Cake for Lily dot com.

As I think most people know, I'm in an AC/DC tribute band based in South Manchester. We cover the Bon Scott era with the couple of Brian Johnson tracks our singer can reach(!!) thrown in too.

I'm 'Angus' and I play an Epiphone '65 reissue SG with Maestro vibrola, fully pimped up with CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and switch, Hovland MusiCaps, TonePros bridge, Graphtec Tusq nut, Schaller straplocks and the mighty Bare Knuckle Riff Raffs. Amp wise, I'm using Laney Klipp heads from the early 70s into a Marshall 2x12 or 4x12 fitted with Celestion Vintage 30s. I also use a DOD 250V Preamp/Overdrive reissue up front to push the tubes at lower volumes.

I've only been in the band a few months and we haven't practiced much and only done two gigs with, but we are doing pretty good in terms of our future gigs and plans. I'm not playing in any of those recordings either, but it's all fun!

Currently I play in the rockabilly band 'Loaded Dice'. We do covers of Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), Lee Rocker, Reverend Horton Heat and some souped up old rockabilly. We have just finished recording a demo with 11 covers, it's now in the proces of mixing.

We have several upcoming gigs this spring and summer. The most important one will be on a rock n' roll festival on Terschelling (a Dutch island) in the first week of september. We'll be playing on the small stage saturday afternoon and on the main stage on Sunday morning.

Future plans: We need to make a band photo and we have plans to launch a website.

Side projects: Our bass player and me are thinking about a psychobilly side project.

Other stuff: Every second sunday of the month, the local bar has an open mic/jam session. I'm part of the support band.

I am one of two guitarists/vocalists in a covers band. (www.alteregoband.org) The recordings on the site are old and were recorded when we had been together about 5 weeks and the mix is bloody awful and we are talking of doing new ones when we get time as we are way way better now. We gig constantly-private parties, functions, pubs and clubs.All experienced guys and my colleagues have become good friends though sparks do fly and we do have our share of band politics. Two of us are capable of writing songs but we have yet to include any in the sets.Currently undertaking an arduous residency (Friday and Saturday nights-playing for 3.5 hours per night ) and we have a reasonably full diary. We have all been known to name drop from time to time.I also help out in a great blues/rock band where I play bass and sing mainly harmonies plus one or two songs.The two guitarists in that band are both excellent players and I love hearing them play(both have just bought BKP's after trying out my Strats and Tele incidentally). The plan is to do more gigs and to write songs so maybe that will develop a bit more.

Well, the band I was playing in over the last couple of years has slipped into hiatus, so now I'm a solo artist. ;) I'd like to play in a band again, but I haven't been working real hard at sorting something out.

One of the ex-singers from my previous band hooked up with a drummer who's kind of trying to work up a new band, and they've asked me to come over and jam sometime -- that might work out. The drummer has only been described to me as a "crazed, beardy, French stoner", so what's not to like?

I met up with some guys I've vaguely known for years who do sort of informal jamming at parties and stuff -- a few of them used to come along to my last band's local gigs. We're gonna meet up to do some "psychedelic world mash-up space/improv" thing. Again, what's not to like?! 8)

And there was a guy from NJ who though he might be coming over to the UK to play a space-rock festival this summer and wanted me to play bass -- but I'm not sure if that's fallen through. Probably, but it's always hard to tell with these things .... ;)

Until any of that stuff comes together, I've got my next BKP clips to think about! :)

My band at the minute is an Indie/Alternative Rock band called 'For This Day'.

We've only been going a little over a year, but we recorded an album between Christmas and New Year 2005, played over 50 gigs in 2006 (not bad for a new, mainly originals band :)) Played at a few decent venues along the way; The Cavern in Liverpool (going back there tomorrow night), The Social in Nottingham 2 or 3 times, a place called The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham that's a 'sister' venue of Rock City.

At the start of 2007 we spent 4 days in the studio recording our new 4 track 'Life Is Only Breathing' EP, which has had good reviews so far :)

We're currently spending most of our time copying CDs to send out to labels, promoters, management etc, so if anyone has any tips, I'd be more than happy to listen :)

Working on some very odd stuff at the minute. I'm working on six or seven pieces that are all Guitar generated, from the drums up (switch clicks, tapping pickups, mutes, pitch-shifting behind bridge and nut rakes). I'm using some software to sequence it, and get it mixed down properly.

Once it's done, I'll be getting it thrown up on MySpace. It's got a real stoner vibe to it. Using Half-speed guitar lines for bass parts is a pretty cool sound, I gotta say. Lot of weird stuff, for example, I'm getting reverb by playing the tracks at high volume into the face of an Electro-Acoustic, and D-I'ing the signal off the pickup, a lot of volume control swells, that kind of thing.

The next step is sorting it for performance in some way or another. Maybe some Simple Kid-esque Laptop frolics or I'll try and get mates to play the drum tracks and stuff for live.

At the minute the Project/Me are going by the handle of "Mach Zero", as I'm going nowhere, very quickly...

Well, I don't have a band, but if it counts, I have to write a jazz piece with a pretty girl for my Yr 10 music class :)
