Fender Preamp?
« on: March 26, 2007, 02:40:38 PM »
Is there any pedals or preamps out there which can do the whole clean to crunchy fender combo thing? I'm aware of those new boss pedals, but sound clips i've heard havent impressed me to be honest. I'm after a kind of SRV tonality here; maybe a little warmer and less hotrod.

yeah i was considering that a while ago - a bit expensive, and it'd annoy me that i'd be paying loads extra for things i'll never need/use.
I was thinking more in the vein of single pedals. I want something that is what a carl martin plexitone is to a plexi. i don't think he does a twintone or anything does he?

HAO Sole Pressure is supposed to emulate a 4x10 Bassman, if that is what you're aiming for

For the price of a preamp you can probably get an actual Fender combo!!

Mesa v-twin.

Theyre out of production, so you can get one used for a decent price.

Now, this thing can go from extreme cleaner than clean, all the way to brutal distortion, and everything in between.
My old guitar teacher had one, and used it to make his Tele and gibs melody maker (with fralins) sound cleaner through his fender princeton.  Now, this sounds noobish, but hes been playing for almost 40 years, and i trust his judgement.  He uses it for pretty much all of his amps... heres a list.

Fender princeton
fender bandmaster (beige with oxblood?) http://globalvintage.com.au/shop/images/DSCN2129.jpg
fender champ 50's (the orange tweed one)
fender champ 70's (the silverface one)

and that pedal cleans all of them up SOOO well.  Its incredible.  It can also turn any of them into death metal machines  :D
my maxon OD 808 really DOES make poop sound good

I dont agree with the above - the V Twin does not make amps sound Fenderish.  If you want a Fender amps sound get a Pro Junior or, even cheaper the new £126 Champion 600 epi VJ competitior, and plug it into your 4x12.

This might be what you want:

http://barberelectronics.com/barb_eq.html

I haven't used one, but Barber has an excellent reputation, and I've seen many favourable comments on The Gear Page.

You'd probably have to order from the States, but the pound is very strong at the moment - might be worth it.

Don't expect it to be available till about June / July time as fender UK are really slow.

Happily the volume control does go up to 12
