Any decent cheap cabs for use with a VJ Head?
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:42:54 AM »
Hi I'm going to be getting a VJ next week and although I would rather get the head and cab than the combo, but are there any decent cheap cabs that would work well with it.

Alternatively for money reasons I could just get the combo for now and then later on down the line get a decent cab can use the VJ combo as just a head - but isn't there limits to this because it only has a 6ohm output? Are tehre any decent cabs that work with 6ohm outputs?

VJ combo has a 4ohms out. For the head check the Framus FR212CB (300€) or even the Harley Benton G212 Vintage (200€) on thomann.de. those 2 use Celestion V30.

You could get a matching VJ extension cab. I've seen them on the internet for $130.-. Musicians friend, I think.

I still haven't seen them Europe, though.

The VJ head has 4,8 and 16 ohm outputs (and 4ohm valve can drive 8 ohm without damage)

Have you consider the Vox V212BN 2x12 cab for £150 - it has Wharfedale copies of G12H's designed by Mr Grindrod himself.

I'm currently selling my 16ohm Marshall 2x12 if you're interested.  It's smaller than a full 2x12 and would be great with a VJ:

how much you selling for?

If I get the combo and then save up a bit what options of cabs do i have with the 4ohm output? Sorry I just don't quite understand this whole 4 ohm business and I think it's daft that the VJ combo is the same price as the VJ head.

just to add my two cents, I don't really like the sound of the VJ with v30's... or at least my laney tt 4x12 with v30's... worth bearing in mind, i guess.

if you can find that epi cab anywhere, it might be worth a try... it certainly suits it in looks, seems to be a decent price, and on paper sounds good. would be worth a try to see if it's any good, at least.

can i just get this question answered please cos I'm a bit confused....

If i get the combo and have just the 4ohm output ....    does that mean I can't use it with most cabs? Do i need to use a special kind of cab with it? Are there any cabs that would work with it???

You can use any cab with a 4ohm input.  There's loads of choice out there depending on budget, speaker preference etc.

yeah. obviously you have more choice with the head, though. but yeah, i doubt you'd be stuck. i went head because I already had a 16 ohm cab (plus it looked cooler).
