Author Topic: Hmmmm, pickup problem. (Read 3832 times)

I installed my Nailbomb and all was going well until i touched the pickup with my hand whilst playing and it made a noise, like when you have an amp on but the other end of the jack is not plugged into your guitar yet then you touch it with your hand and it goes meeeeeppp.

That's what it does anyways, and i have no idea why because none of my other pickups do it. And it is wired properly i think because it definatley sounds like a Nailbomb and is wired the way my pig was and that never made a noise.

Ok it's starting to piss me off now, it turns out i touch the pickup quite a bit when playing with the palm of my hand and it interferes with the signal, i'm not sure if i have connected it right.
I put the red wire to the pot and the black and white or whatever they were wires to the tag on the pot and left the other 2 tapped up. Is that right?

Check you wiring diagram again, also remember that a 4 conductor pickup has five wires!

Red = the tag of the pot
Black = the back of the pot
Green = soldered and taped to white
White = soldered and taped to green

...

And a bare wire which joins the black wire on the back of the pot

Haha, i'm such a noob, i put the red on the pot not to the tag and the other 2 to the tag and not to the pot :lol:

It doesnt matter if you swap the black and red wires, infact if you are putting the BKP's with other pickups you may need to do that to match the phase of your pikcups.

It sounds like your problem was that the bare wire went to the pot tag with the black wire.

the bare wire is an earth for the pickup chassis and cover. You had essentially wired it into the signal chain hence the noise when you touched the pickup

No all my other pickups are fine, i think i was just a little too excited when i did this one, as i said i fixed it now so it all works fine :D
