BKP equivalent to the evo?
« on: April 07, 2007, 07:29:43 PM »
I know that this has been discussed before, but I was just wondering what the BKP equivalent to the DM Evolution pickups were, you know something that is very mid orientated and that is fairly versatile in clean and in gain, and of course.. vai style harmonics.

Not that I am a Vai music player, but I wouldn't mind having a bash and Im considering getting a pickup that might give me that style sound and more.... I was thinking Nailbomb or Painkiller... maybe Cold sweat.

cheers

Matt

Previous BKP's: Riff Raff, Holy Divers, Painkillers, C. Warpig, Nailbomb, Miracle Man.

from what i hear, MM bridge, CS neck, or at least that's what tim recommended to me (to be fair, i only really mentioned vai for the neck pickup)... best to wait till someone can tell you for sure, though.

I have a JEM7VWH with stock Evos and I wouldn't call it mid orientated. In fact I don't find it particularly agressive either although it has high enough output to scare the clean channel on an amp. I'd actually say it's quite a bright pickup, the neck is also bright (ceramic!). I'm not sure any BKPs are like this.
My Nailbomb is quite different; the mids are much stronger, the bass is warmer and the treble is smoother (but not muffled), but maybe this is closer to the EVO2 pickup?
In the past I considered getting a Cold Sweat set for the Jem but when I finally get around to it I think I'll go MM/CS or possible a PK set, although by then there may be even more models to choose from :)
