Just some questions about it if anyone knows:

1) On the specs list that all the Jackson's have on the Jackson site it says it is Alder but before that on the little preview bit it says it has a basswood body, does anyone know what it actually is?

2) It has EMG HZ pickups, i know they are passive but do they still put in EMG electronics cr@p, will i have to put in new pots and stuff if i want to swap out the pickups?

3) Has anyone tried it and is it worth the money paid for it?

i'm guessing you'll have to switch the electronics.

i think it's alder, at least the newer ones are specced as that, and the one I tried felt (EDIT: sounded!) like alder.

worth it? not in my opinion. they felt, to me, like a £300 guitar loaded with name brand pickups so they could charge £450. i'd rather have an ibanez rg1570 (though some people don't like basswood or the super-slim necks) or rga121 (ditto the neck thing) and switch the pickups myself.

or else suck it up and save for an sl3, it was pretty nice.

Yeah the DXMG can be got for £290 though when i did a google search. And i know what you mean i think that about most Jackson guitars until you start spending some real money, they just look good for metal. SL3 i thought was not worth the cash spent on it when i played one, saying that i was playing through a line 6 spider at the time :?

I have an Ibanez RG505 which i replaced with a Holy Diver set now and i love it, though i would prefer to have an Alder guitar since i already have a Basswood one. Saying that an RG1570 can go on ebay for £300 nowadays so i might keep a look out on ebay.

I think i remember seeing somewhere that EMG add some random EMG cr@p into their passive electronics :lol:

I've got a DKMG and they're Alder, so I assume the DXMG is too. Pickups are passive and mine has the boost circuit too. I want to get some Nailbombs for it in the future.

2006 and onwards have active EMGs.

It's Alder.

Every Jackson I played felt like a great instrument and had a very resonant body, way better than even more expensive Ibanez and certainly LTDs. The problem is that people nowadays buy hardware just as much as timber, and few can tell a good guitar from a bad one. So Jackson had to jump on the bandwagon and sell hardware too. The costs barely went up though so it's all good.

I find the high end LTDs to be much better than say - The SL-3, and the low end jacksons all seem so plasticy to me.

All LTDs I played were about hardware. Woods sounded dead to me.

I'm planning on using it with the Nailbombs. HZ humbuckers are just active EMG 'voiced' passive pickups.

I had one of these:

and it was one of the worst guitar I have played in my life the finish was thick glossy coating (think BC rich bronze series) all over the place including on the neck. The flame top looked like a printed paper and it probably was. Cheap hardwares. It felt like a toy, and sounded like a toy thanks to the EMG-HZs. It doesn't even compare to Ibanez RG1570 imo.

Same feeling I had with the SL-3.
