Can BKP make pickups sized to fit a Parker Fly?
« on: April 11, 2007, 05:47:34 PM »
I'm thinking about getting a Parker Fly Mojo, but just found out that they use custom sized (slightly smaller I think) versions of the JB/Jazz.... I would want to replace the JB/Jazz, but I'm not sure what would have to be done to make standard pickups fit.

Apparently some of the guys on the Parker forums have got a few companies to make them pickups that will fit... Does anyone know if BKP has done this for anyone before or, if they haven't, could they?

I'm really interested in the guitar, but I don't think I want it if I won't be able to replace the pickups.... :?

help me out if you can. thanks in advance  :)

If not you could send the pickups that are in the Parker to BKP and they're rewind it for you to whatever spec you want.

I guess that would be an option too, but I would prefer to have all the same parts BKP use so it would sound its best. you think they could just use the bobbins (so it would be the same size) and replace the pole pieces/magnet/wires/etc with their own parts?

I would think so, but I always assumed the main difference with Parker pickups would be the baseplates, because the pickups are mounted directly to the body using the polepiece screws (I think).  I've never seen one up close, so I'm not sure how different the pickup construction is.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I have just put a NB/CS set into my fly mojo. It's easy. All you need to do is cut off the wings that normally attach the pickup to the guitar and also snip off the corners of the bassplate.

The Parker pickup is then screwed into two brass mountings by the two outer hot polepiece.

That's it.

Note - this is ONLY on the Mojos. My classic is mounted to the guitar with the second from the outside polepiece on each coil of each pickup, meaning to do a straight swap you need a pickup with two rows of screws.

Thanks for the help. The mojo is the only fly I'm interested in anyways, so it'd be what I'd have to work with.

Did you get the F-spaced NB for the bridge and regular spaced CS for the neck?

How are you liking the nailbomb/coldsweat combo? I was thinking about something similar... ceramic warpig/coldsweat... you think the coldsweat neck works well with the mojo?

The major problem here is that, you basically have to ruin and devalue the pickups to fit them. Out of a standard guitar, I could just resell the JB/Jazz and make back a little money, but I doubt anyone would want to buy the ones sized to fit the fly.... and if I happened to pick the wrong BKP pickups for my tastes the first time around, then I'd be shite out of luck I guess...  :?

Can't be done. The Fly pickups are sealed with a resin according to Tim, I went through this beforehand ye see.
