think i kinda messed up my strats refinish :( HELP!
« on: July 10, 2005, 06:14:47 PM »
basically, i put too thick a coat of lacquer on so I got a drip. I didnt wait long enough to try and sand it down so I kinda "smeared" the lacquer. What can I do? I wouldnt be so bothered but its on the FRONT of the guitar ! Any help is great thanks!

Let it dry thoroughly, two weeks at least, then rub it down with wet and dry. Use a hard rubber or cork block behind the paper to ensure you rub it flat. Then finish with finer and finer grades (Micromesh is best), followed by some sort of automotive product like T Cut or Meguiars Swirl Remover. It's no big deal, we all get runs at times.
Just 'cos you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

:( i left it a day then tried to sand it flat then dusted down then sprayed over again.. it still looks cr@p.. I think some of it will be covered by the pickguard anyway so I'm not too bothered, the rest of the guitars turned out pretty good anyway!

Ok I was too embarrased to take pics    Thanks for the help though, I sorted it out pretty much. You can still tell it was there because I didnt have enough colour paint left to do it evenly and I couldnt really justify the trip all the way to halfords for one can that I will never use again.. so I used some "AutoGlym Paint Renovator" which is basically T-Cut, that my dad had lying around to get rid of most of the scratching.. looks pretty good now but you can still tell its been messed up a bit..oh well its only my old backup geetar  :P oh well, pics tomorra when the lacquers dried  :D
