holy shite.

went to see them last night in Plymouth with trivium etc.

and they blew all of the other bands away! very heavy, cool melodic ideas, and nice pinched harmonics too!

anyone else have any love for them??

Damn, I was expecting a post about a bloke in a rubber dinosaur suit smashing up cardboard cities.
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

I've got one of their albums, it was an impulse buy because I liked the name (Gojira = Godzilla's original Japanese name) and the picture of a whale on the cover (oh, I'm so shallow...).

Didn't like it, but I must give it another go.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

ah, ok...

i really like the whole whale/environment theme, and that makes the music amazing!! because they use that theme to write the music

i love their percussive bits and their soundscape bits too... it's an ideal band for me  :D

Apologies for my flippant comment up the page, BM.  I didn't mean it to sound like "Gojira sucks", they're good but just not my cup of tea.

There's some very good stuff on From Mars To Sirius - I like the melodic parts and some of the big repetitive "cinematic" riffs.  But I have my usual problem with the growly vocals and the fast drumming bits (and those squealing harmonics do my head in!   ).

Apologising for what now?

If you dont like it, you dont like it. Tis as fair enough as the day is long.

But, yes the melodic work is cool. I love the heavy groove riffs, though. Those guys have excellent senses of rhythm: simple, catchy, destructive

Thanks guys.  I don't have a problem saying I don't like something (indeed, people often say to me "do you actually like any music/books/films/celebrity-based reality TV shows" etc   ), but I always feel I should at least try to explain why.

I just thought my first comment read a bit like Comic Book Guy ("Worst. Band. Ever.") and I know that would annoy me.

yeah, but if "Didn't like it, but I must give it another go." annoys someone, then they have serious anger problems!

I got the album late last year and I absolutely love it. Heavy, complex but still manages to be melodic. Fearsome musicianship too, I tried figuring out some of the riffs and gave up after about 5 minutes!
Warpigs.
